Peculiar? or Not....

At the beginning of the last episode...we meet Jacob and The Dark Hair Dude. Theyre sitting on the beach watching the Black Rock approach the island. What i find kind of strange is that the Black Rock was a ship from what...the 17th century? But neither Jacob or Dark Hair Dude spoke as if they were from that time. The spoke like regular dudes. Is this strange or am I looking way too deep into it.
