| Okay, this has bugged me since the first time we saw Daniel Farady. Remember during season 4, when they introduced us to the newbie's from the freighter (Daniel, Miles, Frank, Charlotte, etc.), and showed them finding out about Oceanic 816 being "found" at the bottom of the ocean? When we see Daniel, he's in a chair and starts weeping. He appears to have someone there taking care of him, as if he were disabled or in need of some kind o assistance. It wasn't til Sawyer told Kate, Jack and Hurley that Farady wasn't "there" anymore a couple of weeks ago that it finally hit me. I think the Daniel we see weeping at the sunken plane on tv is in fact an older Daniel, the one who left the island sometime between 1974 and 1977, and he weeps because he realizes that at that moment, his younger self was about to begin a journey to the island that will end up leaveing him heartbroken over the eventual death of Charlotte--in essence, he comes full circle to the begining. His behavior after the death of Charlotte matches the demeanor he displayed in that early scene--apparently sadened by a profound loss. His journal may, like Richard/Locke's pocketwatch, be a looping anomally in time, as it appears that an older Daniel may have passed it to himself prior to his journey to the island at some point. I don't recall just how old Daniel looked in the scene, but maybe his special temporal charachteristics cause him, like Richard, not to age? If this is true, I think it forshadows how a lot of the last episodes of LOST will go--namely, characters going forward with their lives after having gone to the past, ageing(or not) until they catch up to the time before their departure from Australia, perhaps interacting with or being influenced by themselves in some manner along the way. |

| I think Faraday weeps because he's been exposed to the radiation/electromagnetic energy from his experiments. As Desmond pointed out, he didn't protect himself during those experiments. There seems to be different levels of time travel occuring. The Losties are jumping left and right now. Desmond only jumped with his conciousness. I think Faraday experienced that on a smaller scale - emotion only. That's why he didn't know why he was crying. You're right Stevelle, the emotion was very much like when he lost Charlotte. I think he was overwhelmed with the feeling of losing her, even though, at that moment he didn't even know who she was. |
