OK think about it.

Lil Ben stumbles upon Richard and asks if he can go live in the magical forest with him and his merry men.

Richard says yes that is possible but you will have to be very patient.

Then some time travelers come back in time one of them shoots Ben

Ben is brought to Richard and they ask Richard to heal Ben.

Ben says yes but there is a cost, quickly his friends tell him to talk to widmore and elles and the others before he does this.

Richard say's I don't have to report to them and walks off with Ben

now what if

Lil Ben wanders in the woods and stubles upon Richard and says take me to your magical forest.

So lets pretend he said sure follow me lil ben, he goes back to the others

but they say NO he can't join us that is not the right way.

Think about it.

Perhaps Richard is making some sort of "power move" within the others and the coming war is not between Dharma and the Others

But a civil war between the others. And Dharma just gets caught in the middle.

Widmore was a person of power, but he claims Ben stole it all from him and he knows what Ben is.

So perhaps Ben is simply Richards tool to gain power within the group known as the others.

I think you are exactly right about the "war" coming. It has got be between the others. I'll take it a step further but I am going to need help to make it make sense cuz I'm sure this has several holes.
All clues are pointing to Alpert being on one side, and Widmore and Ellie on the other. What if, in this struggle for leadership, one of the sides decides to detonate Jughead. The blast accomplishes two things: 1) it levels a certain 30 story statue, leaving behind only a foot with four toes, and 2) creates the hole that is used to build the swan.
How does everyone else survive an atomic blast? I don't know but I think it might have something to do with the loser of the conflict, (Widmore) having to move the island to escape the fallout.
Remember when Desmond went all Billy Pilgrim on us on the way to the freighter because he had recently been around large amounts of radiation? Faraday told Ellie to encase the bomb in cement. Sayid made the observation upon first inspecting the hatch, that the last time he had heard of anything being encased in cement was Chernobyl.
Maybe the detonation of the bomb is what gave the hatch it's special energy. What if the detonation of Jughead is the reason the button had to be pushed every 108 minutes?
Again, I need some help bringing all my ramblings together. I just needed to get this all down before I lost it. No pun intended.
