The Orchid, Time travel is a By-Product of what is really going on !

Hey Everyone,

Its been along time since S3 wrapped up and the Orchid Video was released awhile ago now. An i have this funny story that might help us know what the Orchid was really used for.

I was sitting in a physics class not really paying much attention until the lecturer starting talking about therories students were curious about so after awhile someone asked about the Casimir Effect (Obviously a LOST fan) lol and the talk went onto time travel etc etc but then, after that sparked my interest in the show again i looked around and energy production, namely Zero-Point Energy, was what i stumbled across,

The simplest experimental evidence for the existence of zero-point energy in quantum field theory is the Casimir effect. This effect was proposed in 1948 by Dutch physicist Hendrik B. G. Casimir, who considered the quantized electromagnetic field between a pair of grounded, neutral metal plates. A small force can be measured between the plates, which is directly ascribable to a change of the zero-point energy of the electromagnetic field between the plates.

Although the Casimir effect at first proved hard to measure, because its effects can be seen only at very small distances, the effect is taking on increasing importance in nanotechnology.

It can exert significant forces and stress on nanoscale devices, causing them to bend, twist, stick and break. Other experimental evidence includes spontaneous emissions of light (photons) by atoms and nuclei, observed Lamb shift of positions of energy levels of atoms, anomalous value of electron's gyromagnetic ratio, etc.


Now in the video he says the unique properties of the island created a kind of Casimir Effect allowing them to ...... create Zero Point Energy ?


And he also says when did you set the shift ....... Lamb shift ?

An he "Hallowax" also pointed out that what they were doing was very dangerous, an if they were experimenting with Zero Point Energy then there is alot that can go wrong.

But if they were successful they would have been able to stop the world hunger for oil because Zero Point Energy is in theory UNLIMITED ! and if they did achive this it would change the course of human history and changing one of the numbers !

Now im not sure but Lamb shift and Casimir Effect in the same paragraph i think is saying something, and well have any of us seen a coal fired power station or nuclear power plant producing power for the stations / barracks ?

You RULE ManchesterUTD!!! I think your Post may fit our LOST adventure very well by helping to explain many of the odd and ruthless behaviours we have observed. It may help to explain our Treasure Island, and the diverse competing groups.

i think the Zero point theory will come up sometime in LOST in the future.

What i think some people are forgetting this is only Season 4 comming up !!!

another 2 season's are left after this one so there is still so much to tell of the story ! Season 4 is ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG

Hey ManchesterUTD, you've got a nice thought flow going here. I had looked up the Casimir effect before, but had been discussing it's relevance to time travel. If I understand it correctly, zero point energy would be needed to hold open a wormhole and sustain it's properties for us to use it for time travel. But I haven't heard anyone considering the other uses of such a powerful energy source. Using it as a fuel certainly has HUGE commercial possibilities for whoever had control over it. Dare I say the HANSO foundation could rule the world with it?

I still have my time travel theories, but this is really good.
