Good point Gartism!

Perhaps Cooper's only role was to con Locke for $$$'s while he was totally unaware of our favorite Island's much larger con. He may have pushed Locke out because his relatively minor con was discovered and threatened with criminal exposure by Locke.

Hehe.. in all seriousness though.. Forbidden Planet is one of the seminal sci-fi movies of the 50's. It inspired plenty a writer including some guy named Gene Roddenberry who derived a certain 60's sci-fi series off it around the concept of a crew with chemistry that hops around the galaxy exploring new worlds.

And once you get Babylon 5 downloaded.. you will also know where The Great Machine on Epsilon 3 is derived from once its revealed. Some of the inside shot effects are composed exactly the same to pay homage.

You guys (m/f) are great ... think that we are all together progressing well building and weaving our Forbidden Planet Theory thread!

Did a bit of Dharma homework, and have a few thoughts that seem consistent within our thread:

Forbidden Planet Lost Core. For a looong time, our Island has had a special energy source either natural or alien or mystical or some combination. The Island independently senses, analyses, and acts on animal/human/other psyches. The Island's unique power was discovered either from a native, writings, an escapee, sensing technology such as a satellite, or other means. Dharma was created to explore, tap, and exploit it. Dharma created technology that at least sometimes operates independently using the Island's vast power with both extraordinarily good or bad results. The Initiative is well-funded by a private company, and/or possibly taxpayer monies.

Stations. It may be related that the Dharma stations are underground bunkers, and Juliet arrived in a sub. Suggests that the Island's surface is avoided. Sometimes parachutists, planes, and boats happen, but typically unintentionally. Perhaps there is another unground community with mostly kids with safer innocent psyches, who explore, maintain, and operate the Island/Dharma technology. Perhaps commanded by JACOB, perhaps a computer-like device.

DeGroots. The DeGroots are PhD behaviorists from UMich, and root in research pioneer BFSkinner. BFSkinner studied stimulus-response (S-R) control like pigeons pecking a button for food, or Pavlov's bell ring that caused a dog to salivate. Hunger is an intense psyche element ... HMmmm. And of course, the 108-minute button pushing was S-R, as were the pneumatic tube reports from Pearl. Curious that neither of our intensely curious passengers like Locke, Hurley, or Sayid, bother to read this pile of reports ... there must be interesting stuff reported. Perhaps for generations, Island natives were S-R trained, becoming their culture, to operate and maintain the Island, as commanded by the Island.

I have more comments if u r interested, particularly about the Dharma trigram logo or "Ba-Gua" on which feng shui is based. btw Dharma, as you may already know, is also found in India's Sanskrit language, as are the pleasing words: namaste and Pundit.

I just began net looking for Lost stuff like boards about two weeks ago. Two questions, if I may:

1) How do I find past Forbidden Planet core thoughts and weaves (as well as Lost Theories 1&2)? Am very curious as to what else has been observed and innovated, and perhaps what I can contribute.

Was up most of the night thinking and doing Lost homework. WOW, lots of stuff out there ... tho' not sure what's real, what's deceptive, or simply wrong. No doubt no one individual can do it alone ("Live together, or Die Alone") ... we really need to practice a current business buzzword: "Open Innovation".

Here, if I may, are a few brief thoughts and a possible storyline that builds on our Forbidden Planet Theory thread. Please enjoy and continue to "Open Innovate"!

Forbidden Planet. Still think that our favorite Island has a unique energy capability that has evolved, and has been accessed and leveraged thru technology, both ancient and Dharma, and continuing. However, while consistent with everything we've seen, it falls far short towards explaining everything we've seen. 'Tis fun for me!

Bottomline, the Island/Technology at least has had a loong time capability for sensing, analyzing, and acting on human, animal, and perhaps other (spiders?) psyches. This capability, both independently and intentionally, is most sensitive to intense psyches like creativity, murder and Bad Dads, and perhaps innocent kids provide some safety from undesirable independent acts. Loong time as evidenced by 4-Toe, Black Rock (1881; Captain/Owner Magnus Hanso), hieroglyphics, Greek, Latin (Desmond), etc.. My guess is that there are other Island/Technology capabilities such as relating to Smokey, visions, dreams, and in particular, time.

Valenzetti Equation. This is the secret result of a UN Security Council initiative, motivated by the Cuban Missile Crisis, that can be used to predict human extinction based on core environmental & human factors (e.g., 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, & 42), the two key elements of human evolution and behavior. Portugese-speaking Brazil was a key mediator, and perhaps became the mediator/administrator of UN-sanctioned Island activity. Russia (e.g., Patchy, Radzinsky, Klugh, etc.) and the US (e.g., CIA, DeGroot, Hanso, etc.) funded and resourced the initiative.

Interestingly, the Valenzetti Equation may also be used for other purposes, perhaps some good, some not so good. Ben seems focused on the bio/genetic engineering of humans, perhaps for some wacky super race domination ... "So we'll get more Moms"! Perhaps, the Russians were focused via the Swan to control electromagntism for domination via power that can used as a weapon. Also importantly, adjusting the equation's coefficients/variables may allow the manipulation of time, the dependent variable.

Island Technology. Think that the Swan was built close to the most intense Island energy capability ... maps, particularly the secret Blast Door, indicate energy variations. Perhaps technology was innovated that accesses, amplifies, and to a limited extent, applies the existing Island's capability. Thus, this technology can create Smokey to sense, analyze, and act such as physically (kill Ecko), and communicate (Juliet flashes; dreams/visions).

Think that Dharma+ technology also involves implants for better Island communication with implantees, thus increased control. Perhaps most of the 815ers and Island residents already have implants (Ben: "Claire's implant activated".) Perhaps how the 815ers were motivated to be on 815. Perhaps Locke received his implant off-Island thru a Cooper kidney scam, perhaps without knowing the Island's greater intention (Hanso/CIA?), as evidenced by Locke's superhero fall survival, walking, destroying the Flame & sub (maybe?), and pushing Patchy into the fence (perhaps staged including hiding Purple Sky caused inactive fence).

Quickies. Parachutist looks like Sayid's Nadia who comes from wealth and works for Penny. Exciting that "Jacob" will be revealed shortly, but believe that he/she will be only one of a loong line of Jacob's as chosen and controlled by an ancient, independent computer-like device that may have evolved as a self-sustaining entity. Ben may be candidate 2b Jacob in the future. Degroot-rooted "Stimulus-Response" behavior control is a key Dharma R&D activity beginning with animals/fish, and may have been how the Island was sustained over many generations thru the control of Island natives/castaways leading to their culture, as defined as repeated group/tribe behaviours.

Parachutist. Wanted to also mention from my recent post that our looks-like Sayid's Nadia parachutist, who comes from wealth [like many Island involved] and works for Penny, also has connected with Locke thru his welcome home business near LA b4 815. Everything's related and connected, most likely as planned, perhaps even foreseen.

UN/Brazil. Historically, Portugese-speaking Brazil really did mediate during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Remember that our Arctic monitors who detected Desmond's Purple Sky electromagnetic surge spoke Portgugese. They may have told Penny who then sent Nadia for Desmond. Think Penny works for Hanso. If so, perhaps the UN contracted Hanso, perhaps to work with Brazil, to mediate/monitor/administer Dharma as jointly resourced by rivals: US and Soviet Union. Perhaps the break-up of the Soviet Union is a factor that caused the dreaded "Incident". Hanso's behaviors seem much like Haliburton's, particularly the very strong government connections. Perhaps there's much taxpayer monies involved, even globally.

Ancient Island Capability. The psyche sensing, analyzing, and acting capability of the Island may have used Stimulus-Response (S-R) type training of primitives, leading to generations of tribal customs/rituals/culture that were sustaining, even improving, for the Island entity (e.g., 4-Toe). Pushing the button every 108 minutes may have involved S-R training, as well as candidate selection such as special Desmond.

Just read our buddy DocArtz's headline about Sun's Bad Dad's company directly involved with Hanso, hence our Island. This is crude at this stage, but it seems that many, if not all, of our Island captives have Bad Dad's who have direct involvement with our Island, and that they actively, directly involve their kids!

Quick examples. Sun with Bad Dad's company heavy container ship probably to transport materials, tools, and equipment to the Island as part of the Dharma Initiative. Locke with Bad dad Cooper who supplied Locke, perhaps already with an implant from his kidney con. Desmond supplied thru Penny thru her Bad Dad. Perhaps even Juliet's Bad Dad supplied Juliet's fertility talents. etc.. AND, perhaps even Bad Dad Magnus Hanso led to his son's direct involvement ... very cool if true!

Perhaps our Forbidden Planet-type energy/technology that senses, analyzes, and acts on intense psyches located the Bad Dads, determined their Island value, and acted to cause them to in different ways service the Island including thru their kids - RichPundit
