| Yay! Thanks once again, Oli! [Maybe you could make the "video capture" thread at the general discussions a sticky as well... And thanks to you too, Darth. We aren't getting that much spoilers as of now because of the producers' radio silence. I think they'll start coming on Comic Con... [Anybody know when CC starts?] |

| On the contrary, I think the flashforwards are "set in stone". I know the producers have hinted that Desmond really did go back in time and may have really changed some things, but we haven't seen any evidence of that yet. Similarly, I think the flashforwards are an accurate depiction of what really does happen to the characters when they leave the island. Yes, it removes the potential for those characters to die on the island, but I think Darlton are going to severely limit the number of island characters we see in the future. They might just keep it to Jack, Kate, Michael (and Walt), and we see 3-4 flashforward episodes for each. That would leave a few episodes for Ben, Danielle, and Richard flashbacks. For all we know they could kill off a character in a flashforward. Having the future (as shown in the flashforwards) be mutable wouldn't make much sense. If this future doesn't really happen, what are we seeing? The future as it would play out with the circumstances as they are? Then how can that be changed? And what character is experiencing this future reality? The idea of a non-fixed future makes sense in a show like Heroes, where one character can jump around time. He can see how things will play out, then go back and make changes and try again. Lost has no such character, so there's no way to explain that the future is being changed by the characters' actions, and thus the audience would be left baffled by the inconsistencies in the future. This whole post has wandered into speculation instead of spoilers, and I apologize for that. In summary, Lost is telling a linear story in a non-linear manner. |
