I don't expect to see them in flashforwards either, thus why I said those episodes would be flashbacks. I think those are the only characters that the audience is still interested in seeing flashbacks for.

And it's not really that I don't expect those characters to get off the island, it's that the audience doesn't care so much about what happens to them after the island, so they aren't stories worth telling. In the case of Ben, I wouldn't be surprised to see him off the island in the future, but not in his own flashforward. We may very well see him as a nobody in the real world, possibly even a janitor again. The fact that he won't get a flashforward story would accent the fact that there is no story to tell about him, his life off the island is meaningless... which for Ben is a fate worse than death, I think.

Exclamation 06/04 - New Kristin Spoiler

Quote:
Martin: Any scoop on Lost?
I'm hearing they're going to cast at least one newbie for next season. And I am still patiently standing by to see whether Harold Perrineau (Michael) sealed the deal for his return (pssst...H.P., call me!).

Similarly, I think the flashforwards are an accurate depiction of what really does happen to the characters when they leave the island. Yes, it removes the potential for those characters to die on the island, but I think Darlton are going to severely limit the number of island characters we see in the future. They might just keep it to Jack, Kate, Michael (and Walt), and we see 3-4 flashforward episodes for each. That would leave a few episodes for Ben, Danielle, and Richard flashbacks. For all we know they could kill off a character in a flashforward.

Having the future (as shown in the flashforwards) be mutable wouldn't make much sense. If this future doesn't really happen, what are we seeing? The future as it would play out with the circumstances as they are? Then how can that be changed? And what character is experiencing this future reality? The idea of a non-fixed future makes sense in a show like Heroes, where one character can jump around time. He can see how things will play out, then go back and make changes and try again. Lost has no such character, so there's no way to explain that the future is being changed by the characters' actions, and thus the audience would be left baffled by the inconsistencies in the future.

This whole post has wandered into speculation instead of spoilers, and I apologize for that. In summary, Lost is telling a linear story in a non-linear manner.
Very good points. We really haven't been told enough to make an accurate guess based off 'in-show' material. Killing someone off in the flashforward makes perfect sense. Like tailhook, now that you've said it, I'm kind of expecting it

Desmond's time travel thing is so far out there, that I figure it has to be central to the show. It's been the most sci-fi/mystical/unbelievable thing so far, and to go that far in a direction, I'm guessing it's pivotal to the show, and will be expanded upon later.

Getting a bit off topic. Back to ooing and ahhing over JVince's teasers

Question 07/11 - Could this be a Season 4 prop?

Mike, a reader of DarkUFO's blog, caught this interesting image of what looks like a Hanso/Dharma award. What do you guys think? Is it a prop or a cast gift? If this is a prop, could it mean that we'll be seeing a flashback featuring a Hanso Foundation award ceremony?

Question 07/18 - Will Nestor Carbonell return next season?

Quote:
A press tour perennial: anytime an actor who had a recurring role on a popular series joins the cast of a new show, they're asked whether they'll have a chance to appear from time to time on their old show. Inevitably, the answer is, "I'm so happy to be here on my new show, but if an opportunity to visit my old pals presents itself, I'd like to take it." Even more inevitably, such a reunion doesn't happen until/unless the new show gets canceled -- especially if they're on different networks.

Today's contestant in this age-old game: Nestor Carbonell, who played Richard, a seemingly-immortal member of The Others on "Lost" last season, and is now a regular on "Cane," CBS' Cuban-flavored "Godfather" homage, with him as the Sonny Corleone figure in a family of rum and sugar magnates.

So, I asked, would he be able to go back to "Lost," even just to solve the mystery of Richard's well-preserved face? And would his "Cane" character age?

"You'd probably know the answer to that second one better than I would," Carbonell laughed.

As for the first, he gave the stock answer to the question, but "Cane" producer Jonathan Prince acknowledged that it's good PR for the show to have its actors appearing in other popular media, whether it's a small role in a "Batman" film or hopping back to "Lost" for a quick guest spot. The ultimate decision, though, would be up to the network.

I tracked down the ultimate decider on that, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler, and asked her whether she'd let Carbonell do a guest spot if the "Lost" producers asked.

"Probably not," she said, arguing that they're trying to establish a new show and a new character, and she felt it would confuse the audience to see Carbonell playing roles on two different series at once.

Left unanswered (and, admittedly, unasked): would Tassler consider it so confusing if "Lost" was also a CBS show?
