Interesting possibility. It would explain why supplies are still coming. Especially since we know that the sky turning purple has caused some manner of serious problem for the Others. The part that would still need explanation would be why the Others entrusted pushing the button to random clueless strangers, rather than do it themselves.

Personally, i think its rather planly clear (from Rumors heard, Roger 'work man' is meant to be Bens father. Therefore i think it shows us that 1) The others are old X dharama, maybe not high in the organisation, but were defently working on the Island. They proberly rebelled or somthing Also i recon that if anyone is conncected to 'the four toed' statue it is 'Jacob' As he doesnt seem to be a regular member of the others this suggests he's somthing else which is why he holds power over them.
