The pearl is not the question mark and I can prove it. look at the blast door map. On CV4 it says that it is the pearl.

Plus.. the premiere revealed exactly what the ? was. This is no longer a mystery. The answer was given.

It says "The Pearl?", with a question mark at the end, indicating that the mapmaker either thought that the Pearl might be in that location, or else it was just a note indicating that he had heard the name "The Pearl" and wasn't sure what it meant. The question mark is the Pearl. The video in the station states that pretty definitively.

Sure that hatch they saw is The Pearl. But the big ? in the middle of the blast door map is not The Pearl. That was made quite clear in the season premiere when they revealed what exactly was the ? and what it contained.

Its always fun when they slip the answers right past.

Maybe I'm missing something but where did they talk about the ? in the premiere? I've watched it a few times and I'm not seeing this.

Last image before switch to black and L O S T image. Shows an overview of the island with a big honking crater in the middle of it. The others having setup camp inside of it. That crater = the dashed circle around the ? on the blast door map. Its denoted by a hashed circle marking the fact kelvin could not explore further. It was a geographic barrier in that he never could have hiked there... climbed up and back down and gotten back within the 102 minutes and as such while he could map the extents by exploring around it a bit.. he could not tell what was inside. Therefore he marked the inside with a ?.

I do see the logic behind what you're saying, but just because the crater barrier is circular and there was a dashed circle around the question mark on the blast door map doesn't necessarily mean the two locations are the same thing or that there's any connection.

In the same shot you mention, look at the locations of the two pillars of smoke (presumably the two pieces of the plane) in relation to the Other's village. The Tailies crashed on the North side of the island and the Fuselage landed on the South end (assuming for the moment that the blast door map is correctly oriented to North/South). The blast crater is roughly east of the pillar of smoke corresponding to the tail section (and also alot closer to it than to the other smoke pillar). This means the crater most likely corresponds to the area in the northeast of the blast door map (around station C3), which states "Mountainous terrain most likely used by DIHG for meteorological research" as well as "Why so many Dharmatel relays in such an untenable location?": http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...t/243bfbf3.jpg

It sounds like Radzinsky thought the mountainous crater might be the weather station, but it was actually the Others' village (or perhaps both). The Hydra on the other hand is probably station C4 (if the notes on the map are accurate), which is halfway in between the Others' village and the Swan.

Default Pearl = ?

Well I think the Pearl is the center "?" because:

1. There was a ? (salted earth) above the pearl which Eko saw.

2. The Pearl had TV monitors that appeared to connect to each station on the island (only one you could get a picture on was the Swan). This would make the Pearl a Central Location, if not geographicly, then certainly central for observation.

3. The dreams Eko had which led them to the Pearl referred to the place as the question mark.

4. The dashed lines on the map represent areas Kelvin was unsure about, only speculated. Note that the other stations he was unsure about ALSO have a question mark. (there is more than one question mark on the map)

So to me the Relevence of the Question mark is to be taken as "unknown area" and once investigated, reveals the Pearl, the central station for observation.

man i feel like a real scientist. lol
