I see Locke beginning to question his faith in the Island, he's frustrated, The Others could offer him a new faith... Michael wants his son back, Gale said "They'll never give you Walt", so maybe the Others would accept him in and he'll accept the Others just so he can be with Walt. But the major part of my theory is the idea of sins forgiven. The Others do sort of play god in this "Purgatory" of an Island. They choose the "good" people and let those that are left to rot and live in their misery. But what happens when these bad souls wash their sins away? Michael's big sin was his relationship with Walt. He had grown distant and truley in the beginning of the show wanted nothing to do with Walt, he was a burden, an interruption to his life. He's turned that around now. He loves his son, he would die for his son - Walt is now THE most important thing in Michael's life, as he should be. So does that make Michael "good" now? Look at some of the other characters on the show. What others have "washed their sins away"? Everything bad, given time, can become good. Maybe this Island truley is that test, both spiritually AND literally. And maybe the Others are the gatekeepers. -Desmond

| It would make sense if Locke joined the others becuase he's never had someone who he's truely belonged to, and The others would give him a sense of family. We'll just have to wait and see... |

Indeed, but also remember that at the airport it was Michael that called his mother (or aunt, can't remember) to take care of Walt because he "couldn't deal with this." It was mutual at first, even Michael said in the hotel "Look, I don't like this any more than you do." or something to that effect. Walt "came to his senses" sooner than Michael, but in the beginning Michael truly was obligated to father Walt, he didn't really "want" to be his father, it's just that he HAD to be his father. -Desmond
