Default Plane crash poll

There are too many facets to the storyline that can be explained in one single theory... however, what is your theory on why the plane crashed in the first place and put the lostians on the island?

I think it was something to do with the electro magnetic pull of the island. Maybe the button didn't get pushed when it should have because Desmond says that's the day his button partner died (the days since he'd been gone coincided with the days since the plane crash) and in that moment the plane was pulled in and crashed on the island...........

I'm skeptical on the magnetic force "pulling" the plane down. It doesnt explain how they survived. I lean towards whatever the black smoke is having more to do with it, perhaps taking the plane down. It was wreaking havoc in the opening scene of the first episode, and shown again on the finaly. It seems to me like the smoke is selecting who lives and allowing the surivors to find certain things.

True, but I would be willing to bet that the magnetic force is somehow related. Planes just don't split in half for no reason. And the fact that so many people survived that crash defies reason. So far the only clue we've been given that might be involved is the magnetic properties in the hatch.

They must have some relavance, because they continue to drop it into scenes and conversations. What we can bet on is that there is nothing conventional about it. It's got to be some new, powerful science.

Here's a wild theory. What if there was no crash? What if it had all been staged by the Dharma Initiative? They could have somehow used the black smoke to knock all the passengers out, then had them cryogenically frozen. They would then be able to select which ones they wanted to "live" through the crash, and then scattered wreckage, luggage, and bodies accordingly. When they all wake up, they've just been in a plane crash! My reasons for this theory: I saw a picture somebody pulled from a screen cap that showed a piece of the plane wreckage sporting the Dharma Symbol. Also, when Jack discovered Desmond in the Hatch, Desmond asked "What did one snowman say to another snowman?" or something along those lines. He could have been referring to the scientists who froze the passengers.

This might also explain how the tail ended up on the other side of the island: they were meant to be scared by the Others as part of the experiment, maybe to see how they reacted, and how they reacted compared to the people in the fuseloge. The people they took are probably part of new experiments now.

There could also really be a disease on the island, that Ethan and the Initiative wanted to protect Claire's baby from...

Pretty wild, huh?

Wild theory? haha.. just a bit.

I think that while the crash may have been orchestrated by Dharma (or its associates) I think it wouldn't be anything more than real life typical sabotage.

Default Plane crash

Do you think that maybe there are two magnetic thingys one in the losties hatch and one in the hatch that the taileis had, reason I say this is why did the plane split up?, could the two parts of the plane of been pulled apart by two seperate magnetic pulls? and that is why half the plan was on the other side of the island.

Default The Simple Truth

Oceanic's woefully inadequate maintainence of their fleet caused the plane to crash. The disappearance of flight 815 prompted an Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigation which led to indictments of Oceanic's CEO and the Chief Maintainence Operations Engineer in Sydney. The airline subsequently ceased all operations and currently has at least 108 pending lawsuits filed by families of missing passengers.
