| Well I had braces for a year when I was younger, and they didn't actually hurt, they just ached for a bit, especially when you go to have them tightened. I hate dentists anyway, hate the noise and feeling of their metal things clanging against my teeth, even the thought of it is making me uneasy! You have to have an icky mould thing too, so they know what shape you're mouth is...oh wait, thats only if you have the removable ones, they're yucky cos you have to keep them on all day,eat with them etc etc and lots of food gets stuck in them, I was forever cleaning them! Anyway, hope that doesnt put you off too much! If it's any consolation, the end result was amazing, lovely straight, white, perfect teeth! Well worth it! |

| I think you ought to go to church, fall down on your knees, and PRAY TO GOD ABOVE they don't hurt, since you're not on His good side lately, and you know what I'm talking about. |

| Once you develop callouses (sp?) on the inside of your mouth (takes about a week) then the worst is over. That is, of course, unless you play a brass instrument. If you play trumpet, trombone, tuba, or french horn you're in for a real treat. Then you are definitely in for more pain. I play trombone and I had braces for two years. It hurt every time I played until I finally got them taken off. . . I had to use wax and denture pads to ease the pain. |

| I had braces for four years. They hurt when they first go on because on the sharp edges but you get used to that in about a week. Then they only ache when they are tightened. But this was 15 years ago and much has changed since then. I was very glad to get them on because of my overbite. And when they came off I couldn’t stop running my tongue over my teeth for a week. They felt so strange. But remember this was over 15 years ago and I had a massive overbite so this my not be your case. If you need braces then you should get them they will save you time in the dental chair in the future. And you’ll have a great smile to show for it.

| Senior Member | I had braces put on when I was in 6th grade. I was living with my dad at the time and he is a loser. I had to put the wax on the brackets or else it would tear up my lips. Also, my gums were allergic to the metal, so they swelled up. Well, my dad ended up not paying for the bill, so I stopped going to the Orthodontist, who ended up not really being an orthodonist but just a regular dentist that also did braces. So, I ended up having these brackets on my teeth and they weren't even really doing anything and I hated them. Then I moved in with my mom when I got to 9th grade. I went to a real orthodonist. Turns out I needed 4 teeth pulled out, new brackets added and then I had my wisdom teeth dug out (yes dug is the word they used because they were coming in sideways). I finally got my braces off a week before my senior prom only because I begged them. Then, like an idiot I stopped wearing my retainer, and now the tooth next to my front tooth is shifting. I hate teeth. At least I didn't have some weird bar thing connecting my upper and lower jaw like some people, although I did have to wear rubber bands, which I also hated. So.....yes, mine hurt, but it doesn't sound like yours really will.

| Member | I had braces onb from 6th to 8th grade. My story... not nearly as bad as Knotty's (ouch) - but I had them from 6th to 8th grade, and they didn't hurt regularly until I had to get rubberbands put on that attached the top ones to the bottom ones. That was a pain, but mostly they would only hurt for that weekend after I got them tightened. I have to get my wisdom teeth out soon - but I'm trying to put it off until christmas break... because I've already heard a ton of horror stories about having to get those out. less on topic but more dental horror - I didn't have dental coverage for three years. I went back this summer, and I've been there maybe 5 or six times getting them fixed up and put back into working order - cleaned, drilled - it seems like almost every tooth, root canals, learning I need to get my wisdom teeth out - not cool, zeus... not cool. remember kids, always remember to go to your dentist on time every year.

| i only had braces for six months they weren't that bad. The worst part for me was the spacers you have to get a week before because they put them in my font teeth and they reall killed. I ended up accidentaly pulling one out in my sleep.
