Default Man of doubt

What the hell happened to Locke?? In the first season and the first part of this season, Locke is cool as a cucumber... full of knowledge and metaphors, it seemed like he always knew what to do. Now what the hell happened? He's gone from man of faith to man of doubt. Everything was going fine until Henry showed up and Locke just regressed into a whiny power-struggling loser. Where is the tough Locke from the first season?

I think I know how you feel. His character is definately shaken this season. His faith in Destiny, Fate, the Island, or whatever he believes in is slipping. I really don't know what to think of him.

Right now Locke just feels like he's got SUCKER tattooed to his forehead. I'm sure he'll bounce back. He's disillusioned by the hatch, but not by the island. He knows the island is curing his leg. Jack told him it'd take weeks or months for his leg to heal, and it's healed in a manner of days.

He hasn't lost faith in general. He's still a man of faith. He just doubts the hatch. He doubts the numbers and the button. In actuality, the hatch was something he needed for a time, and now it's something that Ekko needs. He is going to do what Jack didn't do. Jack tried to convince him but ultimately let Locke find out on his own. Locke should let Ekko do the same thing but he won't. He'll probably destroy the computer and upset Ekko.

Why? CONFLICT! The penultimate word for good writing.

Well, looks like Locke's faith isn't that strong after all.

What happened to the Locke of the first season? I hate the new Locke. I want the old one back...

Locke is a self proclaimed "man of faith".

His faith is being tested.

I believe we'll see a retun of the old Locke in S3, and it will probably have something to do with the aftermath of the situation in the hatch.

Okay I've got to finally say it. I'm all kinds of surprised how many people were loving locke in the first two seasons. Ever since season One I've not liked him. He always seemed sly, devious and like he was holding out on everyone else. Like he thought he new better or more than every one else on the island. Heck! Locke talked Boone into going up to the beachcraft by telling him about his dream...and he just forgot to mention that Boone was covered in BLOOD?

Psh!

Yeah, but isn't that just the sort of thing that made him such a great character? That he could do something like that and build Claire a cradle for baby Aaron? That twist from despicable to one of the show's great "Awww..." moments, that mysterious, knowing, mystical, confident Locke was someone to watch. The namby-pamby down-trodden button-pushing Locke is both not interesting and a waste of Terry O'Quinn's talent. Complex characters make the show interesting, and that good/evil dichotomy makes the little shiver run up the spine. The mysterious man carries a big knife and knows how to use it, and someone's following him into the jungle far, far away from any help....
