Default Kate needs to go away...

Is it just me, or is Kate annoying? I remember when I first heard the original plans for LOST, how they were going to kill off Jack in the Pilot and have Kate be the leader. I couldn't even imagine that. That would have been downright awful. I've noticed that many of the mediocre episodes of LOST have belonged to Kate. She also tends to want to be a part of the group a bit too much, and doesn't know when to back off.

Remember when Michael ran off to search for Walt, and Jack, Locke, and Sawyer went after him? Kate insisted on going, and Jack told her no. End of story. But Kate, thinking she can do whatever she wants, decided to follow them. And what happened? She got caught and used as a hostage. When Jack didn't talk to her the rest of the episode, I was cheering.

Don't get me wrong, she has her moments. Offering to help Claire search for medicine. Supporting Sun during the pregnancy test. But more often than not, she's just shouldering her way into the middle of things, even when she doesn't need to.

I liked her in the first season, she had a bigger purpose then. She was a good character in those days, but now I just think she should go missing or something...maybe then she'd have a real reason to be the center of attention.

And killing her father was her big secret? That wasn't a very big deal. I've seen more excitement in an episode of CSI. Although having the man she killed be her REAL father was a good twist. The name of the episode was so original too. I checked my guide and saw 'What Kate Did' and thought, "Gee, I wonder what this episode will be about?"

She has gone a bit bland. Kate could use some depth right about now...

On the other hand, if Jack had just let her go instead of being so Jack-like, the Others wouldn't have been able to use her as a hostage.

That is very true. Jack is very controlling, but can you blame him? He's burdened with the responsibility of leadership, which is not a burden he asked for. He just wants to keep everyone safe, Kate included. She should heed his warnings. But then again, he was being a bit rash.

I liked both of them in Lockdown when they played poker, they were very likeable then

I think that she has a lot of depth it's just that the writers didn't put the emphasis on the correct thing in her last episode. Because of that no one is asking the correct question.
Why would the man who raised her as her father say that she has "murder" in her heart?
I think that the answer to that is simple and that we were supposed to ctahcon to it, but they didn't execute it properly...

Kate's killed more people than Polio.

What makes me think this is:
1. The statement by her "father"
2. How quickly she decides to kill her real father (the more you kill, the easier it is.
3. The complete and total lack of discretion (the more you kill the less discreet you become because you start to believe that you won't be caught)
4. The complete and total lack of remorse (see number 2)
5. The Marshall expected her to be able to kill him (see numbers 2 and 4)
6. The importance of the toy plane. I think that she became used to killing but when someone was killed that she didn't Mean to die (her childhood friend) then it shook her to her core and she decided to change. That plane represents her vow to not kill anymore, and That's why she couldn't perform number 5.

That's the way that I see it anyway.
I think that she killed a husband, probably a couple of boyfriends, and maybe an acquaintance or two.

I'd just like to say, people may not like Kate that much right now, but she will always be better than Ana-Lucia. Who sometimes just needs a damn punch to the face.

LOL!!! That's brilliant. I love it. Perhaps my choice of words was lacking direction. I want more depth in her backstory. I know there are a lot of characters to write about. But it takes so long to get back to Kate that sometimes I tend to forget that she is a murderous little scamp. All her cutesy one-liners, and flirting get very old. I want to see a little of that old black magic. Give that girl a gun and make her mad... I want to see that gal fired up!

Im really sorry if this has been discussed, or if im Im in the wrong forum, but someone just said something about the little plane Kate has and I had to bring it up. Did anyone else notice that the little plane she had to get out of that case is the same little plane that was on the mobile in the nursery where Claire was held captive?

That's very clever, I hadn't really thought of it that way. She's probably a cold blooded killer! Maybe we'll find that out in one of her later episodes. That would make it interesting at least. I have to say that the Kate backstories have been the most ho hum.
