Default read this: not important

i believe that jack is not as everybody thinks as the most important because he was the first flashback.as the writers had first decided that he would not last past the pilot so since this i do not believe that he is important i bet locke is the important

It's certainly a possibility. As you said, jack was not intended to survive the pilot, or at the least, long after. It was originally going to be Kate who became leader on the island. However, I think that Jack remains important. It looks like he will be the main, misguided character in the 'flashforwards' for the forseeable future, as his pitiful story comes out. Its my opinion that Jacks flashbacks, are likely originated from a different character, one who was going to suurvive and become important, thats all. Ok so a few professions changed here and there, but thats it really. Its easy enough.

So Yea, I think, whilst he wasnt originally, Jack is defiantely a key character now.
