Default Is Jack the only sane one?

ok, I was watching Reckoning (b/c I'm an addict and any LOST is good LOST) and I had a thought about poor Jack... I think I have judged him too harshly.

His character truly seems to react to situations and events like a real person. I caught myself wondering if he feels like the only sane person on the entire island. Every other character is a bit off. They all seem to be living out their own eccentric versions of survival. They all are looking for answers or destiny or purpose. But Jack is a realist. I think that Jack is like Alice in Wonderland. He chased his White Rabbit down the hole and there ain't no coming back. Let me be clear, I am not saying this is all a dream... but I am saying that Jack may feel like it is.

I just felt like I had been hard on his character. (Always accusing him of stuff or complaiming that he is a jerk.) But if I were in his shoes dealing with an island full of freaks and weirdos, (and I mean that in a nice way) I would probably have a bit of an attitude as well.

He's not the only sane one but he is the most stressed out. The poor guy needs a booty call in the worst way (just not with Kate). The writers should introduce a new female character from the nameless background cast to be his love interest for Season 3.

Well.... He's a Doctor..

I think Jack is nowhere near the sanest person on the island.. I think Sayid is the smartest person there..

But I also think without Jack there would be so many more deaths then their were.. Rose, Claire, other people who he helped.. He IS the most stressed. I agree with fixxin, he needs some ass.

Maybe It'll clear his mind a bit.

I don't think that makes him insane either, It's a pretty ****ed up island.

Jack knows more than we have been lead to believe - or he is just plain stupid. In last week's episode, when he and Michael were arguing about who will go to help rescue Walt - I was stunned when Jack succumbed to Michael's wishes.

Thankfully, Sayid, (I agree - intelligent) picked up on the strangeness of it all.

I honestly don't think Jack is stupid - so, as with everything else on this island - gotta be more to it.

No doubt that Sayid is the brightest of the bunch, but sometimes I just feel like Jack must be thinking, "what the heck am i doing here?"
He seems to still be trying to live by real world ideals. He doesn't seem committed to the "let's dig in our heels and make the best of it" plan yet. I am not suggesting that he is the sane one, more that HE thinks he is the only sane one.

I'mrobably gonna get yelled at for this, but how mind-blowing was it that Sayid AND Jack did things Michael's wy? I first just thought Jack was going along w/ it, deciding within himself that it's be alright...but thrn, Sayid??!!?? What the heck? I thought "MIND CONTROL???". Could it be? It's just not right. Or maybe Sayid was going along w/ Michael, knowing he would not keep himself left out of things?....
