Ben knowing about ship and not

As I have stated before, I am in the process of going through the seasons again. I just watched Season 4, Meet Kevin Johnson. Ok, back in season 3 when Mikhail comes running through the jungle to tell Ben about the ship that is parked off the coast of the island, he is truly surprised, at least that is how I always took it. But in this episode, he knows about the ship before it has even left port. Any thoughts or ideas on how this can be?

Without going back and rewatching (recalling from memory), I'd guess that while Ben knew about the boat and its departure from Fiji, he wasn't in contact with Kevin J.

It probably wasn't so much the presence of the freighter, but rather that Naomi was on island and the losties had a satellite phone that surprised Ben. He may have previously thought that the island was well enough hidden (why else would he rely on sending one loser washed up ex-lostie as his only inside guy). But now that they had the means of finding the island, he got all of a sudden concerned.

We all know what good liar Ben is. He had to act surprised because he hadn't shared his plan with the entire group. He was definately keeping secrets from the Others.

But in reality, I think the actor was told to act surprised. The producers may not have had Micheal's return worked out at that point, which was the next season.

When did Ben reveal he had someone on the freighter? Wasn't it that season, or was it after the freighter people started showing up? It's been too long since I've seen those episodes that I don't recall when he first said that.
