I feel for Harold Perrineau. I really do. The Lost bosses unveiled Perrineau at last summer's San Diego Comic-Con as the big off-season surprise. Michael was returning to Lost. When the dust settled on season 4, Michael's death was the culmination of a fairly lackluster story arc for the character. Besides the one Michael flashback episode, “Meet Kevin Johnson” (which many fans, including myself, found somewhat disappointing), Perrineau had very little to do in his fourth season return. His sacrificial death in the waning moments of Thursday's finale was an abrupt ending for the Michael character, though it was a nice way for the character to make up for the murders of Libby and Ana-Lucia. However, Michael's death was a sore spot for Perrineau himself, as evidenced by a TV Guide interview conducted after the finale aired. Among other things, Perrineau accused the Lost writers of pointlessly bringing Michael back and for furthering stereotypes regarding fatherless African-American children. To read the rest, click here.

I feel for him too, in that he didn't get much air time. But give some whilte folk the benefit of the doubt; I would like to believe they told a story, regardless of colour. And Walt himself is actually too big for Michael. Walt is bound for big things. Michael would be the guy with the chip on his shoulder. Was he redeemable? Possibly. I sort of hoped he'd live to 'splain things to the rest of the Islanders next season. It's too bad, as you say Oscar. But I am with you, it isn't about race. If it were, would Sun be THE most INTERESTING character right now or not?

Sorry Harold. I think the writers just wanted to bring you back long enough to wrap up your story. No loose ends. Everyone wanted to know what happened to Michael and Walt. Now we do. They can't do a flashback without a character to flash on. Race was n/a. There may have been a little more story for Michael if not for the writer's strike.

I can't stand people using the race card. Get over it. The longer you keep pulling the card the longer it stays an issue.

I believe that Harold had a point that shouldn't be trivialized. Dismissing his claims as rotten eggs is somewhat accurate, but there is some truth to what he has said. The Black men on the show do seem to have a negative slant. Mr. Echo, drug dealing killing machine, redeemed himself sort of and then died. Michael, annoying murder, died for no reason other than to satisfy my craving for annoying people to disappear

Out of the 5 Black women that I remember, one was dying of cancer and she mothers the other castaways (cookie cutter). The second, was an Other and had a hand in kidnapping a child and most likely others. The third was seriously shifty and taking orders from the creepy guy. The fourth had a drug dealing grandson and a bit part. And, the fifth is your chubby grandma looking out for her grandson, but don't forget she raised a killer (also cookie cutter). Maybe we'll find out that the former cancer lady killed someone too. So now I must ask the creators, what is up with that? I do love the show. I think any show that keeps me guessing and racking my brain is a good show. Also, I am aware that this isn't the only show out there that may stereotype one group or another. A person gets used to it over time. If I didn't, I wouldn't watch most television shows. And, yes I agree, he wouldn't have mentioned it if his character wasn't killed off, but that does not take away from th

I realize that I am somewhat long winded, but one more thing. Race isn't something that can come in and out of a pocket. It is right on your face all the time and is an issue. If people are not aware that the color of ones skin or the slant of ones eyes, can sometimes be a negative in this world we live in, then you continue living with the blinders on. It is interesting that the people who say it isn't an issue are those who are not people of color. As a proud American, I am not ashamed to state that there are problems here that we ALL need to work on.
