While I wasn’t a huge fan of the episode, I do appreciate that the Lost writers don’t entirely look down on their audience....

I thought the donkey wheel was a tribute to all the gears around the stage of the musical "Wicked". Especially when Ben looked up and said "I hope you're happy now, Jacob." Elpheba and Galinda sing the words "I hope you're happy now" back and forth in the song "Defying Gravity" in the show. Yet another tie in to the "No place like home" Wizard of Oz tribute.

Ben said, moving the island is something that is only done as a last resort. Perhaps, because the consequences are so catastrophic not only to him, but to others, including us 'normalos', as well. Polar Bears on an island? Next season, we might even see crazier things! I do wonder, though, if Jin jumped off of the ship in time, and was picked up by Daniel & Co., would they have also been transported without any bad effects? And, didn't Ben warn Jack to get off of the island soon implying those still on the island might have some great cir!@#!@stance to overcome? Food for thought.

I think Ben lied about the negative effects of moving the island? Why? Because it seems that the moving of the island played well into Ben's scheme to get back at Widmore for Alex's death.

Let's recant:
Ben tells Hurley that its results are unpredictable and it's unreliable.

Yet when Ben arrives at the hotel and asks the clerk the date, he already is sure of the year. So he must have known he went forward in time.

Then there's the fact that he already knew Sayid was in town for Nadia's funeral. How would he have known, 10 months prior, that he'd land in the area where Sayid would be for his wife's funeral when Sayid hadn't even been reunited with Nadia, more or less married to her, and Sayid was on the very ship that Ben knew he'd caused to blow up by killing Keamy so, (by all intents and purposes) Sayid should have been dead when Ben turned the Donkey Wheel?

I think Ben knew exactly what it would do and he did it.
