Have the Lost writers known all this about John Locke since the beginning?  Was he the chosen one, the person who would be charged with saving the island all along?  One of my biggest hopes is that after season 6 has ended, and everything has been told, that Abrams, Cuse and Lindelof sit down and tell us where the Lost story started, which aspects they had planned all along, which were made up on the spot, and which were drastically changed.  That's a lot to ask for, but as a story/story structure buff, it would be endlessly fascinating.  Lost is a gigantic puzzle – did they have all the pieces in front of them in season one?  Season 2?  Locke's journey is fascinating, and he's definitely not your typical hero – somehow reluctant and willing at the same time, as we saw in the flashbacks last night.  Besides Locke's hero journey, everything else in “Cabin Fever” was mind-blowing and I'm not sure how to respond, but here goes:

Such an amazing episode, and it was so jam packed full of stuff that it's hard to know what to address. Ben seemed to imply that the Others had a leader before him, and it did seem like maybe he was always the second choice to Locke, whether he knew it or not. Maybe the island inflicted him with pain because it knew Locke was coming and it didn't need Ben anymore. However, I think that all of the main people were chosen to be on Flight 815, not just Locke. They're all essential to the overall story.

Yeah, season 1 told us that all the Oceanic 815-ers were there for a reason. But I just don't know what's happening now. What if Locke was supposed to pick the knife, and Alpert was supposed to pretend it was wrong so Locke would go along his journey as always? Abaddon pushed Locke as well, so maybe that was the point? I've always loved Claire though, and last night was creepy. I watched Roswell, and just that one moment reminded me of how good Emilie de Ravin was at being a little evil - I'm NOT used to seeing Claire like that though.

Amazing episode!

Emilie de Ravin did a great job! She should have portrayed some sort of evil character from the start! It suits her so much better than her screaming "MY BAAAAYBEEEE!!!!" all the time...

I do think that a lot of people were chosen to be on that plane. Not only Locke. Can't wait to see how everything else pans out!

This flashback was awesome as well!

I assume by Dalai Lama test you are refering to a child picking from things that use to belong to the last Dalai Lama to see if this is the reincarnated version, if so the knife being an object of violance may be a red herring, maybe he just picked the wrong items and Alpert is mad that he isn't the chossen one or a reincarnated version of someone else

A thought I read somewhere else. This Abaddon guy...the way he talked to Locke last night sounded so familiar to the way Walt used to talk to Locke calling him "Mr Locke" .......Could Abaddon be Walt in some way....maybe future Walt

Awesome episode and i think next weeks will be even better. I think the finale will be kind of like the movie Memento if anyone's ever seen that. It's story structure is such that the movie starts and finishes at the same point. If a story has 10 parts imagine the first scene shown is scene 6. Then they show scenes 1,7,2,8,3,9,4,10 and finally 5. The end of the 5th scene obviously leads into the start of the 6th scene, which is where the story began. This definitely seems like an opportunity for the showrunners to head into the 5th season "flashless", instead going from the island to the Oceanic 6, as many people have hypothesized. Also the "big reveal" is said to not be in the last scene, which would mean that "scene 10" is not last, as in my proposal. Although, even if my Memento Theory is wrong, this episode should be amazing

I wish we knew for 100% certain that Walt was Michael's son. Something is starting to give me the impression that the important thing about Ben, Locke, Walt, Aaron, is that their father's are Native Islanders. Think about it: babies cannot be born on the Island. So, if you are a race of super special non-aging Island folk, do you just be content with never having a new face, or using your ability to leave the Island and enter the real world, do you make some babies there? Then, maybe you set it up so that you get your kids back somehow, even if it is years later?

I know this is a stretch. Here is what we know, though: we know that the person we were told is Locke's father is a conman, and his "mother" was being paid to set him up. When meanie Grandma Locke saw Alpert outside the hospital room, she looked disturbed to sew him. I know some will say that it was just the site of a man staring. but Richard Alpert is a sexy beast, was dressed well, and didn't look scary or threatening. Also, when the doctor asked if it was the father, she was obviously uncomfortable and lied. Now, I am NOT saying that I think Alpert is for sure Locke's dad, but Grandma Locke had definitely seen him before. He seemed to be about the right age for Grandma Locke to have said "He's twice your age" to Emily.

In all the other cases...Ben, Aaron, Walt...we are given fathers. BUT, can we trust it? Claire's boyfriend, well we don't know who he really was, but it seems to me that Claire had a strong destiny when it came to Aaron and the Island. Her boyfriend, who we know nothing about except that there are paintings on the Island that look very similar to ones he did, could have been a Native playing house in the real world for a little while.

Walt: we know that Susan and Michael were having problems, Walt's young life was a mess. Add to that his constant insistence, which was NEVER reconciled, that Michael IS NOT HIS DAD. Now, this can be taken obviously, as the angry words of a young man who grew up without him. But Walt is special...maybe he senses that Michael REALLY ISN'T his father. Michael may believe he is, but perhaps Susan had an affair with a certain creepy ass orderly.

Ben: Roger Linus is an asshole. Is his disinterest in Ben's existence really because Emily died in childbirth? Or, is it that Emily died in childbirth with a kid that Roger knew wasn't his? Or, that Roger learned wasn't his later in life, when he had to take blood test for something or other.

I know this is a stretch, kind of a huge one, but I think it would be REALLY cool if we find out that people who end up on the Island are just descendants opf the Natives, being called back home. Abaddon and Alpert may just be recruiters, making sure the good and bad guys are where they need to be, but maybe they are more...

The cabin scene with Claire, Christian and Locke had a real David Lynch vibe to it, especially the seemingly dark side of Claire. I loved the time-tape loop of Horace continulally chopping down the tree. Notice his nose was bleeding. Who is his constant? Or does it matter since he's a dozen years dead.
I'm loving the idea that perhaps flight 815 was crashed just to get Locke to the island, but perhaps also Hurley, since he seems to be able to find and see the cabin.
Also did anyone catch the Dharma log on the "second priority" file that Kemey pulls out of the safe? Just adds to my suspisions that Widmore is Dharma.
