This isn’t an Easter Egg so much as a blatant mistake by the show, which I take pleasure in finding. In the opening scene,... To read the rest, click here.

Whoops! But it's such a great song, I can't argue with its placement. Also, when did we learn John Locke's exact birthdate? I'm just wondering if that's a canon thing or one of those things the fans found elsewhere.

I have to correct your correction-Emily was listening to a Buddy Holly 45 not the radio-they made a distinct point of showing the 45 on the record player just like they did in the Hatch when we found Desmond there listening to the Cas Eliot song.

On Lostpedia, it says that his birthday was on his Driver's License. I have much faith in the producers of this show, but this is only a minor gaffe. I think they picked Buddy Holly because it would be instantly recognizable and due to how he died. If Locke actually stated that he was born in 1956, I just don't recall it. The writers could say that the DMV made a mistake, like on King of the Hill where Hank's ID shows him as female.

I'll correct the radio part, though it doesn't change the thesis.

No it doesn't but the record player was important, they way they focused on it, they definitely wanted us to think of that scene in the Hatch.

One thing to note is that both of Richard's attempts to recruit Locke preceded the Revolution on the island and also 'the incident' refered to in the Orientation film.

Whether the 1956 -1957 issue may or may not be intentional, there would certainly be reasons beyond a DMV screwup. For example, since Locke was adopted, maybe he was given a birth certificate / birth date of when he was adopted which would have been months after his birth (hence 1957 instead of 1956). Then there are all of the time looping / time inconsistencies that we've seen going on in his life and on the island. There are enough time shifts on this show that a slight change in age certainly could be a perturbation of time (or a "disturbance in the Force"

DKUVA: I completely agree... My first reaction was that Locke was adopted, however, that wouldnt change his birth certificate. Maybe there was a mixup with birth certificates when he was adopted, so he grew up knowing his incorrect birth date. Having said all of that, I do think it was a minor mistake, although the Lost crew would have known that we would have caught this mistake immediately. They are pretty good at cathing mistakes... so maybe this isnt a mistake...?
