This is interesting, thanks for pointing it out. Was Locke supposed to be Ben? Was it only when Alpert failed to recruit Locke, who is in denial of his true self, that Ben was needed to come to the Island?

Also, Abaddon's suggestion of the walkabout to Locke came AFTER those things would have happened. So: Alpert wants Locke on the Island pre-Purge, and pre-Ben, supposedly because of his skills in science. Is this because Alpert was recruiting for DHARMA at that time, or because he needed Locke to fulfill the role that Ben later would? Abaddon wants Locke on the Island post-Purge, post-Incident. Is this because Abaddon is trying to restore a DHARMA type control to the Island, or is it because he knows Locke should have control and not Ben. Anyway, I thought that was an interesting observation because of the questions that arise. Who is really protecting the Island? Do we really understand the factions yet? I don't think we do.

Consider this: What if DHARMA is another Mittelos, a front to get people to the Island. We already know because of the various orientation films that the DHARMA people were pretty in the dark about what they were doing there. What if they were like Juliet, and were also tricked by Alpert into coming to the Island? We have no idea who recruiter the DHARMA Initiative, but I have a feeling if Locke would have attended Mittelos Science camp, he would have ended up meeting Jacob a whole lot sooner.

I'd never expect a show like "Lost" to make an error like the "Buddy Holly" thing. I would expect it from "Supernatural", "Smallville", "Ghost Whisperer", "24", "Grey's Anatomy", "ER", or any other show except Lost!!! It's just too accurate and perfect to make these kinda errors :S
