She also wants payback....

this from the thread devoted to this episode... we also bounced the Hurley lent her the money... again highly unlikely considering his new anti-Lottery stance...

however.. Sun would also receive 2 settlements.. this and a possible partnerships with a small group interested in a corporate takeover is possible with a small stack and the right banks doing the financing...

This is in reference to Sun's controlling purchase of stock. It didn't occur to me until I just re-watched this scene that 5 banks is a little much, isn't it?

We have noted on this board already that 1) the Oceanic settlement would likely not be nearly enough $$$ to buy a large company, and 2) what are Sun's motives?

IMO, the fact that Sun "used 5 banks" indicates that it wasn't just her money. I'm guessing Ben Linus is in on this purchase. What do you think?

I think that the reason the she used the 5 accounts was because one person/account/group buying a controlling share of the company's stock would set off instant alarm bells, because then it would be a hostile takeover. Five different people, each buying 11% of the shares isn't going to trigger the same panic.

Her motive is simple revenge, IMHO. She blames her father, not only for putting her and Jin on that plane, but for nearly destroying her marriage and for totally changing who Jin was. Her dad doesn't know that Jin got a chance to redeem himself and save the marriage. All Sun knows is that her father was the catalyst for all of the problems, including Jin's "death". I have no doubt that Widmore is the second person.

As for the amount of money she received...Ben is totally an option when it comes to the money. Ben can get to Chuck through Sun's father, so that make sense. But it is true that...

So she got twice as much as the others, maybe even more because she got 1) Her settlement from Oceanic 2) A wrongful death settlement from Oceanic for Jin, which would be very substantial and 3) Any life insurance policies that they had on Jin, which might even pay double for an airplane crash. So she does have a tidy sum, and with that much bank in the bank, she could finance the rest, as Talontbo says.
