I think the the survivors of the Black Rock shipwreck are the original inhabitants of the island, or the Hostiles. I also wonder if the reason the ship is in the middle of the island is because they somehow got teleported there, perhaps through some wormhole or something. Anyway, with Magnus Hanso being the Black Rock's Captain, perhaps they either mutinied or "teleported" him off the island in an uprising and his kin, Alvar, knows about the island's existence through Great Grandpa and that's how the Hanso Foundation was formed. Perhaps Widmore is either a business partner of Alvar's who wants the island's secrets for himself, or he is Alvar trying to get back after the Ben-led Hostiles got rid of his team. Him wanting the BR ledger is either for information or the desire for a family heirloom.

oooh drewbacca - that is another GREAT element to consider. Interesting that you said that Alvar could be Magnus. I wonder if that means that Richard was really on the Black Rock like has been suggested in the past. I am willing to bet they are. Some sort of chance meeting between the two would be very interesting! The dynamic of this show could change so many ways depending on any of these great directions they take it in!!! I can't wait!

It seems odd to me that the Black Rock journal made it off the island. This would suggest (in a logical world) that the Black Rock crashed there and everyone was rescued, but I don't think this is the case. There's definitely more going on with that. Did the Black Rockies find a way to teleport off the island?

As for the sickness, there's no doubt in my mind that it's the same one. You can only get it by being near or on the island along with high levels of radiation or electomagnatism. Desmond and Minkowski had both of those elements, while the regular Lostie doesn't. It is safe to assume that Danielle's team were exposed to radiation--they were scientists after all. And Danielle never got the sickness, because she was pregnant and was probably kept away from the radiation/electromagnitism of their experiments for her's and her unborn baby's safety. We don't know that the sickness is infectious--Danielle only thought it was. She obviously didn't understand it.

leleana: I don't know if Daniel would necessarily be dead by now. Desmond has been time jumping for quite a while now. He started out having flashes, which weren't true time jumps, but he did go way back in time last season when he was still with Penny and he was going to propose, etc. Minkowski could have been time jumping in small doses before it really became a problem and he had to be taken to the doctor. Don't know, it's just a thought.

OMG!!!! I was just watching rereuns from Lost and i am currently watching "Flashes Before Your Eyes" and I think Desmond was able to travel through time since Season 3....we only realised it in "The Constant"!!! And that is why I LOVE LOST!!!

Thinking about flashes before your eyes would explain that the sickness could occur over a longer period of time and not necessary escalate at the rapid speed of Minkoski's or Desmond's was till another event triggered it, which would be that point between the boat and the island that the Captian pulled back from. This time jumping probably does not have much exact reason to it. It seems that in Flashes Before your Eyes, Desmonds Island consciencousness is what was doing the time travel, unlike in the constant when it was his past army self time jumping. Great Stuff!

If Faraday is time traveling, he must have his constant. But with Desmond, once he found his constant, he stopped time jumping. Either Faraday is NOT time jumping, or he is able to control it (one of the theories on how the Others get to the mainland so quick, they are able to control and utilize their time jumping abilities)... Good catch Don, I thought the freighter (Xmas Eve 2004) was on the same time as the island, but you are saying the island is about 2 days behind... If you take the 31 minute time difference from Faraday's experiment times the 94 days the Losties have been on the island, you get 2,914 minutes, or 48.6 hours, the assumed time difference between the island and the freighter. If this correlation is true (and not coincidence), that means that for every 24 hours that passes on the island, 24 hours and 31 minutes pass on the freigther/real world. Interesting...

sugarnuts: I think you are right, if you are somehow made unconsious for the trip to/from the island, your mind isnt aware of the time difference you are crossing through. That must be the "safe" way to travel to and from the island. But what about when Ben wants to go to the mainland by himself (I am sure he has been doing shady things on the mainland without the Others knowing...) Does he knock himself out with a wrench? Or does he not use the submarine because he can control his time traveling abilities? Do they only use the sub when transporting someone without this ability? And I still wonder how no one on Oceanic 815 started "time trippin" when they crashed. Was the plane going too fast? Did it just happen to enter using the correct coordinates? Did the metal fusealage protect them?
