| after reading the thread.. Compelling LOST Theory.. I was struck by something stated in the initial paragraphs... regarding the Black Rock... The thread was talking about the ship being loaded with some form of magnetic material, and thus was deposited on the Island because of the Island unique magnetic qualities... and frankly was a bit dismayed... it makes no sense... First.. as has been stated and recorded... the Black Rock was a slave trading Ship.. That left Portsmouth... Before its disappearance it then left SIAM (THAILAND)... According to "The Constant" ABC.COM's Find815... has a message left by Tracy.. for Sam.. regarding the Black Rock.. and it clearly mention the Black Rock left Papua New Guinea.. laden with gold... Gold is not a magnetic metal.. But late 1900 century gold on the market today would be worth a great deal more than then... by a factor of at least 10.. if not more depending on when Ben might have sold it... in 1978 and 1979 gold reach upwards of 850 oz... a far cry above the 35 per oz Gold was locked into before the U.S. abolished our Gold Standard... How much gold was on the Black Rock.. and why would a slave ship need dynamite??? it wouldn't.... but it would need it for mining Gold and perhaps other precious minerals... such as... Rubies.... and Sapphires.. found in SIAM...... even a hand full of fine quality Burmese Rubies would be worth a Kings Ransom... Burma being on Thailand's northern border... is also home of the Finest Rubies on planet Earth,.... not to mention arguably the Second finest Sapphires... not to mention others such as top quality Jadeite, Zircon, Chrysoberyl, Spinel and Peridot... top quality is to mean... Burmese stones found in top quality usually sets the standard by which all others are compared... Thailand is also home to excellent Ruby and Sapphire deposits as well as Cambodia/Pailin River sapphires can be quite stunning.. Papua New Guinea is also very rich in Gold Deposits... Now... I am not discounting other theories... i am only offering a possible theory based on ABC released information... and not my imagination... in Find815... it is mentioned the the Black Rock was set Sail in an Easterly Direction and not Westerly like is should have had it been going to Africa to trade for slaves with the gold they collected... Easterly puts the ship heading out across the South Pacific and roughly south of the Polynesian Islands...... anyway... I hope this helps... it does tend to open a possible door for how Ben could have the kind of wealth required to maintain his supposed empire.... I guess.... |

| Go ahead and discount them. I thought the magenetic pull on the black rock was a little suspect, too. Good info. |

| hey Dennis... your post count is rising... good job.. the info I provided in the opening post is reasonably confirmed... not only is it available on ABC.COM.. but is to a smaller degree reinforced by the episode.. "Exodus part 2"... When Anrst, Hurley, Kate, Jack and Locke.. are lead to the Black Rock by Rousseau.. in these scenes, they are retrieving the Dynamite on order to blow open the hatch and Swan Station.. When Locke, Jack and kate enter the Black Rock's hold.. they see the skeletons and Locke figures its a Slave Ship... shackles and all.. but he also notes.. the Mining equipment... and says something to the effect... It looks as if they were on their way to Africa or maybe Mozambique... Later, Jack forcefully tells Kate not to open one of the crates of dynamite in the ship... with a pick ax... What Locke assumes is the Black Rock's heading somewhere to mine.. is only that.. an assumption... based on what he sees in the ship... and does not leap to the possibility it was returning from mining... Earlier.. Arnst, in the discussion of how the Black Rock could have been deposited in the middle of the Jungle, mentions a possible Tsunami.. this seems reasonable... If the writers were doing their homework..The writers could have incorporated the Krakatoa Explosion and resulting Tsunami.... Interestingly.. there is a picture on the Lostpedia page showing the Black Rock and in the background, there seems to been a massive volcanic explosion.. with dates indicating the 1880's... so, perhaps this theory does hold some water... but not a lot... due to the actual location of Krakatoa and our island... Please note.. the Krakatoa is located between Sumatra and Java.. in the Sunda Straits and even the massive effects caused probably would not have produced an Easterly Tsunami of any great magnitude capable of reaching into the South Pacific.. as Krakatoa is on the western side of Indonesia... it was reported Tsunami raced across the Indian Ocean much as those seen during the Bandah Ache event not that many years ago... But the TV possibilities are a writers dream..... I like it.... |

| Nice theory about the gold and possible jewels being the source of Ben's dough! The "extremely compelling theory" does have a ton of holes in my opinion, but you gotta hand it to the guy--he really went for it! Lots (and lots and lots) of stuff there!
