So what do we think here...clearly he didn't spend the rest of his life from that day forward with her. But does that language rule out a happy ending for Des and Penny? I honestly don't know. Is it splitting hairs to say that technically they could wind up happily ever after and that Ms Hawking just meant that he wasn't going to be with her for a huge chunk of his life, but could still end up with her in the end? I love Des and Penny! |
I don't think so. I think it was just Mrs. Hawking's way of emphasizing that Desmond was not going to buy the ring, propose, and live happily ever after no matter how much he insisted he would. She was telling him that in the end, he'd make the right choice even though it would end costing him years of his life with Penny.
