| Member | Does anyone think that Sayid didn't really tell the captian anything new? That he already knew "Kevin Johnson" was Michael Dawson? Or do you think he was totally shocked?

| Any good captain would know what's going on on his ship. I'm really just basing this on the fact that people not being surprised happens a lot in this show. Like when Kate reveals to Jack that Juliet was working for Ben. Or, you know, almost anything having to do with revealing something to Locke. Also, it appears that Ben considers him a threat (I assume, based on the "Don't trust the captain" note), so I wouldn't really put 'knowing' past him. |

| The dramatic pause that occurs when Sayid says his peace and then the Captain just sits there, pauses and looks around indicated (to me) that the Captain already knew. Otherwise I think he'd have gotten up right away to kick Michael's ass, like the Captain did to the guy trying to get off the freighter. |

| I think he genuinely didn't know Michael was Michael from Oceanic 815. I think he wasn't surprised in terms of now he found his saboteur. I think if the boat was running smoothly, no crew members died and wierd stuff wasn't happening, then he would have been more surprised. I think he was more relieved that now that the saboteur was caught, his crew can get on with the mission. Just my opinion |

All I know is that the captain seemed genuinely pissed about being stuck, and seems like at this point he'd say screw the mission as long as they can get home. That being said, he doesn't seem like the type of guy who would allow a saboteur to run loose on his ship, and if he knew Kevin was really Michael, it would have to have been obvious to him that he was the culprit. Even if he didn't kill him, he would have been keeping a much closer eye on him and Michael wouldn't have been able to sneak around opening doors for Des and Sayid. The captain might have been suspiscious about Kevin Johnson (like Miles says, everyone on that boat has a secret), but he didn't know he was Michael Dawson or else he would have stopped him from messing up the boat and foiling Widmore's plans. | |

| Given how violent/extreme the captain has been to keep his hold over the crew and the obvious disdain he must have built up over the unknown saboteur, if he already knew it was Kevin Johnson why in the world would he just let him continue to walk free on the ship to cause more potential mischief? His look did seem to hint that he already knew, but then again I'm in agreement with Erikau. He doesn't seem like a man to let his surprise show. He's very much in control of his emotions.

| With Lost I generally take the route of greatest resistance. My thoughts are that the Captain is Ben's man and Michael is there for another purpose. Ben is always two steps ahead and would want someone in a position to have more control of the situation. Also, if Michael is caught the Captain still has complete deniability and can continue to manipulate events. I don't think he'll make any of that known to Sayid, the question is whether Michael has served his purpose yet. |

| I agree with erikau. If the captain already knew, why wouldn't he do something about it? wasn't he just kicking someones ass at the beginning of the episode for trying to take the raft (or whatever) out? The captain does strike me as a strong and composed person, he didn't lift a finger when that girl commited suicide. His little pause at the end of the show was (not just for dramatic effect but) him gathering his thoughts. By the way, Sayid is a F****** retard for blowing Michaels cover |
