| hmmm.. Faraday/Des/Widmore.. not sure I can rap my head around that one... and here is why.. Desmond meets Jack.. 3 yrs before Jack hit the Island... Desmond is alone on a ship in the middle of the Ocean.. Desmond can't pilot a boat it would seem... but oddly a boat he gets from Crazy Libby... where does Libby play in that triangle??? Faraday.. has met Desmond, but can't remember, nor can Des until he Mind Travels... Widmore doesn't hate Des.. but think his daughter Evil Penny does.. Widmore has the log... but does Widmore want Desmond in the race??? Did little old lady tell Widmore Des would wreck on the Island?? way to much to consider.. oh.. by the way... your screen name... NHL Canes??? I so hope not.. I may have to stop conversing with you.... |

| Hell, I think your theory is great! It makes sense to me. The possibilities are endless there... I like your creativity...

| I think that the solution to Widmore knowing about the crash lies in the First Mate's log that he purchased in 1996. I think that it not only woke him up to the properties of the island, but may have alerted him to the crash if the writer was time-jumping (Richard?? Jacob??). |

I'd wager that Widmore has been looking for this Island for quite some time. Dharma was on the Island, Hanso funded Dharma, and Widmore has ties to Hanso. Perhaps Widmore was used by Dharma as a silent investor, but became curious about the Island after someone (Ben) killed all the scientists. Or maybe he never had anything to do with Dharma, but became aware of the mysterious island's existence through Hanso. From that point on he became determined to find the island. He bought the Black Rock journal to discover HOW to get to the island. Then, he sent Desmond on Libby's planted boat as an "eloise," or a test run before Widmore tried it himself. The Widmore balloon on the island suggests that Widmore either had someone make a previous attempt to go to the island (with minor success, they made it but died too soon to help him) or as the beacon that lured Desmond to the Island. In either case, it seems that Widmore had knowledge of the Island before Desmond got there, before Desmond's consciousness met him in the bathroom at the auction, because he was at the auction because he ALREADY knew something. We need more history on Widmore, Hanso, Paik and such. I think these very rich men play a much larger role than we even think. If the people who believe that the 815 crash was some sort of course correction, then a correction to what, as in WHO IS MESSING WITH TIME? Sounds like the hobby of people with too much money and free time to me, like a bunch of rich old dudes. I'm waiting for this to turn out to be some sort of chess match between Hanso, Widmore, Paik, maybe others. They each orchestrated their own "pawns" to be on the island, and whoever's win...wins haha. | |

| Senior Member | Oh, and good theory Canesrule. Although I don't think it was Des' meeting with Widmore in the bathroom that tipped him, I like your Faraday and the machine idea. I always thought that Widmore looked like he knew what was going on during the Constant. Now Widmore (the Economist) wants the technology, maybe so he can make even more $. |
