Default Locke and the Man in the Coffin

Something occured to me.. lets assume that the Oceanic 6 are the following.. 4 confirmed and 2 maybes.

Jack
Kate
Hurley
Sayid
Sun
Jin

The thing is this.. we know that the Man in the Coffin was under an assumed name due to the article. But the Oceanic 6 are known all over. Their names aren't a mystery. So someone got off the island that needed an assumed name. The only people that I think would really *need* that are Locke and Ben. Locke needs it.. because it was known in his medical records from before the accident that he was paralyzed. Is he suddenly going to show up as part of the Oceanic people 'rescued' and raise the inevitable question of how he could walk?

Nope. I don't see them letting him stay as he has shown he can mobilize and fight against them. Perhaps he ended up getting relocated forcibly back to the states? If he says anything they just have him locked up in a mental institution for a short stint and write him off as a crazy. The other 6 go along with it and say he went bug**** nuts while waiting for rescue. He ends up twisting in the wind trying to make any claims. He ends up dying later and becomes the man in the coffin.

I still think its Michael.. but the more I look at it it could still be Locke in that coffin. He's the only one I can think of that would need the assumed name.

I'm trying to think back, because I haven't read those threads since this summer, but didn't the clipping say something about a teenage son? I guess I just can't see Locke making it off the island without a body ba...ohhh. I see what you mean. lol.

If it's not Michael, then I think it will be someone like Miles or one of the other freighter people we do not know yet. The Michael episode coming up on 3/20 is named "Meet Kevin Johnson" and I am wondering if that might be Michael's fake name or if it's another new guy on the boat.

Locke seems too tall and built to fit in that little casket.

why does it have to be anyone we have seen so far??? They way this show jumps around from time period, to time period, couldn't the coffin dweller be someone that has not been introduced so far and yet has something in common to Jake and Kate after they arrived in the U.S.???

My guess is the man in the casket is someone who plays a pivotal role in getting back to the island in some way: Lapidus, Miles, captain of the freighter, etc.

i still think it is ben. as we seen a few episodes ago, ben has many passports and can be given an assume name of his own choosing. the only thing that is throwing me off is the child in the article.

The only problem with it being Michael is that the funeral home director's question to Jack, "Friend or family?" would become somewhat strange. Granted, Jack could be related to Michael by marriage, but I don't think that would be the first reaction of a funeral home director. Most anyone would probably guess that Jack was a friend.

OH MY GOD WHO CARES WHO'S IN THE DAMN CASKET ALREADY!

If it were that big a deal from the start, they would have addressed it by now.
IT WASN'T A BIG DEAL!

Now, you naive tools are obsessing over this and the writers are going to create a stupid scenario to shut you all up and make you happy...

Tell me this...

IF YOU WERE ABLE TO TELL ME WHO WAS IN THE CASKET TODAY, WHAT RELEVANCE WOULD IT HAVE TO THE SHOW?

NONE! It wouldn't help understand anything other than a question that you idiotic viewers created yourselves!

The producers have said that who is in the coffin is one of the two big questions that they owe the answer to by the end of the season. You're right that it probably wouldn't help us much to only know who was in the casket, but the attached question is why it bothered Jack so much. The producers think it's a big deal, thus we should think it's a big deal.

I CARE WHO'S IN THE DAMN COFFIN!!!

the writers have said many times that it was an important part of the story. before the strike they were going to wait until next season to let us all know who it was. now, since they don't have much time, they promised us that it will be revealed this season because they felt they owe that to us.

the relevance of it would be that it would explain why jack was so obsessed with going back to the island. he was willing to kill himself because of that person's death. i think that is pretty damn important.
