| hey Pitchy,,, please do not misunderstand... i think your map is terrific... it was what the doctor ordered.. especially considering my thread regarding Ben's money and the Black Rock being laden with gold... from New Guinea... I did not do Find815.. I have been visiting the site to firm up some things... I think North of the Flight Plan would be correct... as it tends to fit with the Black Rock setting an Easterly course from New Guinea... but being 1000 miles off course is a strange statement.. Pilot made I believe.. because it begs the question.. 1000 miles off course based on their filed Flight Plan?? or 1000miles off course based on their new flight plan to Fiji??? something else is brought into the equation... from what I have seen of Fan based maps... these maps are made to appear as if Flight 815 just stop in mid air and turn an about face and headed in the direction of Fiji.. This to me seems a bit strange.. please know.. I have never piloted an aircraft.. but I am pretty sure its not possible to make a reverse course correction in this manner.. I would expect some type a wide sweeping turn in order not to turn the plane over on its wingtips.. So, considering some larger turn radius.. possibly a left turn, Northerly to Westernly to Southerly... this also sets up a cross over tot he normal Flight Paths taken by other aircraft... and because we do not know how long after 815 turned around that the planes initial problems occurred.. it makes plotting that much more difficult.. I think you correct.. the island is North of Fiji.. but I suspect close to 1300 to 1500 miles north... almost exactly due east of New Guinea.. or 500-800 miles north of the original flight path Sydney to LA.... either way.. I love you map... I was so happy to see it... I would love to see a thread that contains any and all of these type images... like an archive... that would be cool.... |

| The tsunami was in the indian ocean. They have been implying the island is near Fiji.

| hey Desi, I think Brdmi was just trying to correlate the 2004 Banda Aceh Tsunami with the supposed date reflected in the story line.. And yes.. it was in the Indian Ocean.. at the northern reaches on the Sunda/Java Trench.. and could not possibly generate a tsunami into the South Pacific.. I tried to research the Black Rock.. and Arst's assumption of a Tsunami for the ship being several Miles inland.. and correlated Krakatoa.. also located at the Sunda/Java Trench..in 1883.. date was close... location not even... That does not rule out the possibility of an unrecorded Tsunami or a possible Rouge Wave.. in the area of the island... whether its near Fiji or not... I suspect the island is 1300ish miles from Fiji.... Rousseau says "we were 3 days out of Fiji when our instruments failed and then we were hit be a storm"... and yet she fails to mention which Direction they were heading when departing Fiji...so, someone trying to calculate where the island is has to contend with the storm.... if for 3 days aftert hey left Fiji the bout was traveling at 15 knots... thats roughly 16.5 miles for 72 hours... or approx 1000 miles... But the Storm throws a wrench into the equation... she never mention how long they are in the storm.. nor the direction the storm pushes them... until their vessel runs aground.... in my mind... the storm could account for hundreds of miles... doesn't have to... but it could.. I still like the description of the witnesses of the Black Rock departing New Guinea.. on an Easterly bearing... to me this makes sense.. but again... if the Black Rock encounter a Rouge Wave or similar storm... it could be almost anywhere.... |
