I'm not sure why Juliet believes that Ben would let her go home when he wouldn't even consider letting her take one of the women back to the mainland.

She saw him release Michael, but we aren't sure if that was all for show or not. Ben could have arranged to have them picked up again later, or he might have known they wouldn't be able to simply sail away.

I don't think Ben can risk ever letting anyone leave for good. Only the ones who are devoted to the cause (Ethan, Alpert) would be allowed to leave for recruiting purposes.

I agree with the flashback comments. Flashbacks don't lie. She is clearly meant to be a sympathetic character. Someone new for Jack to "save."
