Default lets break down this equation on the looking glass blueprint...

first of all id like to know how many people think its strange that the blueprint calls this palce a "hatch" and not a "station"...

this is weird to me because hatch was a losties term for what dharma had always referred to as a station.

hatch by nautical definitian is -
1. a. Also called hatchway. an opening, usually rectangular, in the deck through which passengers can pass, cargo can be loaded or unloaded, etc.

I think this may be a deliberate hint about the looking glass's purpose...

I believe this is a portal and that the sub entrance is for loading people into the sub to take them to the dharma welcoming center... causing them to believe that they arrived there by submarine...

This happened to ben and his father on initiation day, as well as to Juliet and anyone else brought to the island.

ok enough of that... now for the equation...

here is a link for the blurry picture of it but underneath i have typed the parts i can make out -

http://lostpedia.com/images/9/90/Equation.jpg

ok as far as i can see most of this is -

H(t) a cos (2st/T) cos (300t/T + Z

now H(t) is usually associated with Intermittent Hypertropia at Distance (ophthalmology)... Opthamology being the science of visual pathways... not really sure what to make of that...

the only other thing in here i recognize is 2st/T which is an australian oldies station (maybe the music syid and hurley hear on the beach?)

it would be nice if someone with some understanding of these things would take a look at it, im an idiot and just googled around to find the answers here...

id like for everyone to try and figure this out!

although its probably pointless seeing as how well most liekly find out next week haha

Ok so this is probably very anal-retentive but there's an issue w/the schematics and the depth of the station.

The schematics indicate that the station is 60+ METERS below the water...which places it between 180-200 FEET below the surface.

The free-diving world records are around 110-120 meters. That's the world record. I have a hard time believing Charlie could dive 200-feet very easily and still have enough breath to make it into the sub tank.

So, being short of the World Record by 150+ feet AND using a weight belt (which the record holders don't use) is unrealistic?

Plus - it was assumed to be a one-way trip -- the WR folks make a full trip, right?

I don't think at the time it was as far down as the schematics say. If you could see the station from the surface, it was definitely not as deep as it should have been. Also if it was had to be anchored to shore, that seems rather strange don't ya think... that it has the ability to move or something...

Maybe we were at low tide for the day and that gave him some extra breathing room.

Then again, maybe Charlie was the jr swim champ of northern England and he can hold his breath for 4 mins

Those are the free-diving world records for going down to a depth AND coming back up. If a diver was not worried about living they could go much deeper.

With the weight belt... and a one-way trip.. I could see it.. its not out of the realm of possibility assuming he could hold his breath. What would get silly is if he swam back out and up after becoming acclimated to the depth. There is a little thing called the bends that will ruin your entire day and going 60 meters to surface after spending any amount of time at 60 meters is more than sufficient to give you a good case of the bends.

Another thought -- what if the cable is supplying air? Sure, they probably have a Seawater to Oxygen kinda tech going on, but - what the hell, had to throw it in there.

Supplying Air? Good lord why?

Perhaps its supplying liquid food too.

All the best tabasco sauce comes through the cable.

Tie a bag over soemone's head and let them breathe for a few hours...find a newbie. Take your time and do it right.

They have to cycle in new Oxygen somehow.

Just throwing it out there.

Another problem comes with desmond waking up and then diving down to save Charlie. Unless he as a spare weight belt that would be a hell of a dive.
