Default Finding the island

I know this is an easy one for everybody, but to win a bet I need acceptable proof that I was right. We agreed that this forum was full of fans that would know the correct answer, so here goes...

When Desmonds girlfriend hired the guys to sit on the ice cap, looking for a signal from Desmond, how did they find the island?

A. There was a locating device placed inside Desmonds book that was activated when he opened it.

OR

B. The electrio-magnetic explosion caused a blip on their radar.

Thanks to all who reply.

I believe the computers they had said MAGNETIC ANOMALY DETECTED or something like that. They were looking for some sort of magnetic disturbance way out of the norm. So when Desmond turned the failsafe key and the sky went purple... their computers detected that disturbance.

A would be, uh, illogical -- why the need to open a book for a signal to be transmit?

B is what TPTB showed us for the S2 Finale and that's the right answer

Its probebly B
But i really like A because thats where he found the picture, and he seemed suprised by the fact that the picture was there. So i assume she was the one who put the picture there that could be infact a tracking devise of some sort, which could also explain the multiple pictures. I like it, and it would kindda follow in lost style... I like it

I didn't realize it was even something to guess about..."B" is the answer from the S2 finale. The sky goes purple, the researchers on the polar cap recognize it, and the search team goes out after they call Penny to tell her about the anomoly.

Something still doesn't make sense about this though. Put yourself in Penny's position... Your boyfriend goes on a round the world sailing race. He turns up missing. You want to find where he is hiding/lost at. You put out a $$$ reward for info on his whereabouts. You tell a team of Brazilian arctic researchers that if they sense a magnetic anomaly that they should call you right away.

Why? Because everyone knows that a magnetic anomaly out in the middle of the ocean could mean only one thing... that's where the rich chick's boyfriend is hiding out. Do magnetic anomalies follow Des around? Are they his homing beacon? How do they know this magnetic anomaly points to Des and not some other person who's gotten lost out in the middle of the ocean?

Depends on the transmitter. Granted its still illogical but not impossible to have a transmitter connected to a circuit that triggers when exposed to the light and in turn activates the transmitter. You would have seen it when he opened the book though. Either way... not a likely scenario.

I believe Penny knows something that we do not. Maybe she had a visit herself from Mrs. Timetraveler Jewelry Store Lady.
