It may be me as im not used to american world maps (their set out all wrong!) but the screen on the phone when sayid tried to get signal seemed to show that the signal was going out from where looked like portland (near san francissco). I do realise that it may have just happend to be the middle of the map, and there is way more than one portland but its just an idea. iF someone could get a screen cap you should see what im talking about.

I just saw a spoiler at Darkufo's that said something about seeing a highway sign during a fillm shoot showing Portand 32, as 32 miles away. Interesting, maybe the Island is really not where we think it is or maybe it is not an Island at all. Good catch I would like to see a screen shot of that.

I saw the signal originating from the Portland area as well. Either that's where the sat phone is, and is trying to acquire a signal, or that's where the sat phone's relay station is, ie, the sat phone's calls travel from the satellite to a station in Portland, where the station then transmits the call across the terrestrial phone network, or back to the satellite and route the call to another sat phone. If it's the latter, then that means the sat phone probably belongs to Mittelos. If it's the former, then there is something strange about the "island." I hope it's the latter. I don't want the show to make us believe this huge island is actually located somewhere in Oregon. That goes down a "Truman Show" path that I'd rather not take.

Oh man see I was thinking this could be the Truman effect but felt a little stupid thinking it. I first suspected it when Juliet was strapped down in the sub. It seemed a little to fishey.

| Senior Member | I'm going to take a stab in the dark here, but a Satellite phone shouldn't be trying to get a signal from an earth based station. It should be attempting to connect with something crazy, say like a SATELLITE When I was in the navy we used INMARSAT a lot for our sat phones. Inmarsat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hmm I never thought of that, maybe the woman from the "Helicopter" is one of those people who tried to spoil the Truman show, by jumping out of the boxes at Christmas and stuff like that, hmmmm I am losing my mind,

The icon for cell signal strength shows 3 bars. I figure it's probably a red herring, but hopefully Sayyid or someone notices that or says something about it. Isn't it possible that a sat phone has cell capability?

The map may show oregon (actually california if you ask me) as the center, but maybe it's like a GPS unit that remembers where it was last time it was receiving a signal, and assumes its in the same place until it receives different data from its satellites. on an unrelated note, if this is such advanced equipment, why the huge speaker?
