Default What is it? And why is it there?

I was re-watching the last episode and in the scene where Ben takes Sawyer to see that he is on a smaller island there is something in the background that I'm trying to figure out.
This appears right after Sawyer punches Ben and they proceed to the point they can see the big island. It appears to me to be speakers on a pole, but why?

Imo, Im thinking it has to do with the loud alarm that goes off when there is a prisoner escape or like the one they sounded when they were moving Jack. One would think they'd have thatall over the island in hopes to find the escape prisoner faster. I was wondering that as well, until, I saw this at the very end...

That does seem to be a set of speakers on a pole, similar to the ones they blantantly showed during the scene when they were moving Jack and using them to ensure he couldn't hear Sawyer or Kate.

Default Original Purpose?

What does everyone believe the original purpose of the alarm was? If the Hydra was the station for animal research and the cages were for those animals, why does Dharma need an alarm strong enough to hear in Australia? Perhaps a dinner bell for the Dharma workers on the main island?

Some of those animals seem very dangerous...the Polar Bear in the Locke episode seemed to have quite an appetite for DHARMA employees...so I could see them wanting a powerful alarm system to ensure everyone was aware of any breaches in the security.

those are old style speakers used for PA systems. Could be used for alot of things other than the alarm. could orginaly have been used to make announcements then adapted to play the alarm to help cover movements like they just did. also an amplified speaker like that can be usede as a poor mans directional mic, matter fact any speaker can be as long as the impeedence is low enough, and if you amp it like those are...you could hear quite soft sounds quite well.
