Before the hatch was opened, it set a sort of mysticism to the story. Now that it has been opened it gives us an optimistic setting! Sort of puts everything together. The hatch doesn't make the story, but it makes it quite interesting!!!

If the writers keep doing such a good job than by the time they reveal some of these secrets, then we'll be so engrossed in the characters that it won't matter - we'll still watch
