The new NBC pilot Life aspires to be the House of police procedurals.  It may not seem like it at first, because on the surface Life is a high-concept offering, but by the end of the first episode it becomes clear that the premise is only there to make the lead character quirky.  Which is weird, given the plot: An ex-cop spends 12 years of a life sentence for murder in a maximum security prison before being exonerated.  He then goes back to being a detective.  The improbability level of the pilot is high and, although this isn't always a deal-breaker, it is troubling given the fact that Life is essentially a police procedural.

I love new shows - especially on NBC - it gives my friends at work and I a reason to bet. How many shows til NBC either yanks ? cancels ? or saves for mid year replacement ? or my favorite is......

the show sucks so much we can only show the remaining episodes on the internet.... that's a classic ... you know who you are ..all you Pirate Master fans.

this show is so hard to believe that, well, it's just plain not believable. i give it a -1 on a scale of 0-10. i'm betting on about 4 episodes before it goes 'internet only.' good for the writers and producers. they get paid for a full season and a nice paid vacation. nice work, again, NBC.

I just got done watching the pilot, and quite frankly can't believe the review I just read. I thoroughly enjoyed this show, my only cause for disappointment is that there aren't more episodes for me to watch right now. I don't get the believability argument, since when does a show have to be believable to be good. Is Heroes believable? Is Lost believable? Is Dexter believable? I would whole heartedly say no to all of those questions, yet they are all entertaining shows. The same goes for Life, which was just plain fun to watch. I hope this show gains a following on NBC because I would love to see more of it. 9 out of 10.

I have to agree with the review. I didn't like this show at all. The funny thing is that I've probably watched similar shows (quirky character or deep conspiracy), but I just couldn't connect with this one.The Zen-stuff and the quirky comments just seemed out of place. Much of it just seemed forced - for example, the lead character got the kid being questioned to trust him but i didn't feel as though they actually made a connection.

I love the show and how he is constantly working to solve the crime he was charge with. Come on it's TV folks!!! To those of you that think it's quirky, do you watch reality TV and think it's great?!?
