That was great to see more HEROES goodness with the Yahoo TV preview for tonight's episode (episode 5, "Hiro's")! I liked how Hiro seemed to choose his words carefully when he told Peter "Be The One We Need" (caps added). It seemed at first to show how Hiro (or actually the writers ) wanted to relay a message succinctly to Peter, since he had little time to talk and said he wanted to avoid a "rift". He might've been able to say, "You need to be the one who we can rely on for help", but that just isn't as elegantly simple. Pretty cool in itself, right? Then I noticed something else!

Hiro did not say, "You ARE the one we need." Slight difference, I confess, but it got me wondering- was the message more than just a profound sound bite we the viewers can remember and/or repeat, or more than just a slick way to get across a message to Peter? Hiro didn't state the similar present-tense form of the phrase, as if whatever Peter is like now is on whom "we" can depend. I started thinking that maybe there will come a time soon when Peter may have to make a choice, whether to "BTOWN" or not. It could boil down to a difficult decision or question of priorities at a time when he isn't prepared to quickly choose, and if Peter had not received the reminder from Hiro, he would or could easily choose not to "btown"! Do you think it sounded like a statement of encouragement to Peter (along with being an efficient and catchy choice of words)?

While Hiro was being Mr. Economical in his message to Peter (like measuring words for a telegram), he omitted a detail I thought at first to be important. He did specify that the Painter was Isaac, but he didn't tell Peter who the Cheerleader was. At first, it seemed like that detail might help Peter to btown, imo. Or is that just the "hook" by the writers to keep us viewers guessing? But if an important message has to be relayed, at least in some other shows, like van praagh's jlh show, I think it's kinda dumb when the messenger gives a cryptic message- why don't they just share what the people need to know to get things done? It might make the show shorter, or maybe the storytellers could do something else with the time!

But then... I thought of why knowing the cheerleader's name might not be helpful! If the cheerleader needing saving is Claire, and Peter went immediately to find her, and when he met her, she wasn't in danger, the timing could be off! However, if Peter goes about his timeline without much more than the reminder to "save the cheerleader", then he'll know what it means when he sees a cheerleader in danger, or in other words, the message will then be helpful when needed, right? What do ya think?

Also, I liked how Nathan acted like Jimmy Jean-Louis the Haitian had "neuralized" him! That looks like it'll be some fun interaction! B)
