| ted was told to burn bright, not hot... that's how he released the emp to shut down the security system and lights. peter has the powers, it's not knowing what they are that prevents him from using them. clearly he's moved past having to remember how the power's owner made him feel (thank God for that... peter's character was wussy enough without that little mechanic :P) and more along the lines of he thinks of what he wants to do and does it or reacts with the power most appropriate. |

| My understanding about Peter's copying ability is that he can only copy/acquire actively used powers*. I don't remember where I read it, but supposedly Peter only picked up the TK ability from Sylar because during their one early battle (when Sylar had Mohinder up against the ceiling) TK is the power Sylar had going. Not his eidetic memory, super hearing, ability to see how things work (or "not"), etc. Sylar apparently has some freeze powers; I don't think Peter has demonstrated any freezing capabilities. * the only thing I can't figure, then, is how he has DL's phasing ability, as insofar as I know, DL never used phasing around Peter (or that the two even met in close enogh proximity). And supposedly DL is dead (but that's a whole nuther track of thoughts) |

My theory on Peter's power: To be able to use a power that he has absorbed he either has to be under a lot of stress (in which case the powers just happen on their own), or he has to think about the person who he got the power from. Remember what the invisible man told him. Therefore to intentionally use a power, he has to know he has that power, and know where it came from. Since he currently has amnesia (or a mind wipe) he can't remember what powers he has, nor who he got them from. That means he can only use them automatically, like when he is in a stressful situation - someone pointing a gun at him, ferinstance.

| Junior Member | I doubt Peter's memory loss has much to do with the blast... it still doesn't explain the necklace, the box, or other mysterious things that he doesn't have memory of... I think he's a brainwashed mind-controlled hitman of sorts. He's a bad guy by force, with a good guy's intentions. |

| It's possible that the electricity Peter generated came from another hero. If you read the online comics, there's one that shows Mohinder treat a man who absorbs electrical energy. It's possible Peter has met this man, too. As for him having all of Sylar's powers, I don't think he does. Yes, he did pick up Sylar's telekinesis, but why hasn't he displayed any of the other powers? I know you can say he needs to think about the person to use it, but what about the powers that can't be controlled, such as Claire's healing, Charlie's memory, or Dale's super hearing? None of them could control their own power, and not even Sylar or Dale could at first control the hearing. It seems unlikely that Peter could control it without even knowing he has it. |

Peter is able to do the lightning thing be using Caitlin's name as a trigger. It looks like he got it from her, and she may not even know she has a power. He also makes use of Matt Parkman's power. He only seems a bit surprised by that. Maybe he's getting used to the idea of all these powers. The next step is for him to get curious and open the damn box.

| so when he wanted to free himself from the ropes he had to focus on how indifferent he felt toward a man he never even spoke to? or when he needed to move a truck to shield others from bullets he reminisced about the man who is, in all respects, his arch rival? |

| Moderator ![]() ![]() | Hmm, I've been thinking about Peter and his TK and if he did pick it up from Sylar, yah, why didn't he pick up anything else? The only thing I can think of is that since Sylar's powers were not his to begin with, perhaps Peter can only steal them when they are being displayed? Since Sylar isn't like the other heroes? I don't know, that's just at thought of course. I want Charlie's power. Have we seen Sylar even use her power? I don't remember.
