I just ran across an early November, 2006 Q&A session with the writers of Heroes. In one answer to a question, they mention that the number NINE (9) is very significant to Heroes -- both the story and the characters. In another Q&A with the same folks, the writers mention the use of nines and the significance of the number once again. I wonder what we can find in relation to nine -- things that might actually mean something to the story or a character. Here are a couple of synopsis of the number 9 1) Nine holds great significance among many Masonic orders and secret societies. 2) 9 - Number of the Moon; Container of all numbers; Number of known astronomical planets. Eternity; Yesod; Endings, echatology; Moons of Saturn; Number of Muses; In the I Ching, 9 is the number of Yang. Arabic Ta (Secret Knowledge ). Number of absolute completion, perfection and wisdom. Since the ennead is the final limitation, it is the acceptance of solitude and the beginning of the inward journey to the Infinite. Linderman has NINE letters. The Bennets live at 9 Juniper Lane, Odessa, Texas. What can YOU come up with?

So, no one has found ANY other references to the number nine? I thought the folks who had the episodes recorded would have run across something by now? Come on folks! The writers say that the number nine is significant, so I'm sure they have placed clues in the series for us to find. Whatdoyathink?

I hear Chinese culture regard Nine as a lucky number and other Multiples of three. But the cast are 15 in total.

We are, if anything, creatures of habit. Drawn to the safety and comfort of the familiar. But what happens when the familiar becomes unsafe. When the fear that we have desperately been trying to avoid finds us where we live. Despite Nathan's best efforts to protect him, Peter finds the missing painting he's been looking for. Ando continues to wait for a vanished Hiro. As Jessica plots revenge, Micah convinces D.L. that Niki needs their help. With the help of Sanjog Iyer, Mohinder finds proof of extraordinary powers and chooses his destiny. Peter arrives at Claire's Homecoming, but he's not the only one. "Peter has got all these...ideas in his head, delusions of grandeur â?? he thinks he's supposed to make a difference..." - Nathan Petrelli "I'm finally realizing who my friends really are, and that maybe being different isn't the end of the world, it's just who I am." "Exactly - you gotta embrace your inner freak. Because the only thing you'll regret is denying who you really are" - Claire, Zach "Darwin said, 'a scientific man ought to have no wishes, no affections â?? a heart of stone.' That's me, Mohinder, it's not you. Go home." - Chandra (in Mohinder's dream) "Are you the one? Saving you, did I save the world?" "I don't know... I'm just a cheerleader." - Peter, Claire We are all, at our cores, the sum of our fears. To embrace destiny, we must inevitably face those fears, and conquer them, whether they come from the familiar or the unknown. episode 9 Homecoming

The number 9 also has religious connotations to it. There are 9 circles of hell, purgatory and heaven. Perfection is the number of the trinity times itself (9). Might help?

Well it seems to me that we have nine main heroes in the show. 1. Peter 2. Nathan 3. Claire 4. Hiro 5. Isaac 6. Nikki 7. D.L 8. Micah 9. Matt Nine main characters with abilities. Of course there are others but so far everything seems to circle around these nine characters and the people in their lives. Everyone has a connection somewhere as well to another hero. We should keep an eye out for the number nine popping up in random places which is not an uncommon motif for a show with complex mythology. The X-Files, Alias and Lost all have recurring number schemes as well which are pertinent to the mythology. Where did the creators actually say the number nine is important? I think I missed the article but I can definitely see how it is true as there are nine main heroes, that seems the most obvious one to me so far. I'll keep an eye out for more.
