I think the biggest reason why heroes becomes so confusing in the first place is that the alliances you thought were made between characters aren't consistently maintained...for example, Hiro and Peter, Matt and Peter...all people who interacted during the finale of season 1 to "save the world" but Peter, blinded by Adam's sleazy persuasions , didn't even heed to their words until the very last moment, which I found not suspenseful at all, just plain ANNOYING .
I feel a major underlying theme of the show is basically "lack of communication" To me, this season had a handful of characters just going off and doing things without many of the stories connecting or intertwining like last season which was beautiful and highly addictive...I do have faith that they will bring back some common sense into the show as I recently read that Tim Kring actually apologized on ew.com about the inconsistencies that we saw especially in the first episodes of this season...

Still looking forward to 2008!!

Lost was never confussing, just pure crap.
As for heroes, ive never been lost as such, but having recently purchased the first season on dvd and watched them through again, i noticed alot of things i missed the first time around. But i always know wots going on in the show.
As for character relationships, none of them were ever great m8s of anything, they just happened to all end up in one place on the same night, but half of them didn't even meet that night ie. claire and niki, and peter would have not seen again matt till the day in primatech, coz matt got shot and taken to hospital, while peter flew off and went bang.
