Default Villians' Motive

I know Arthur wants the formula to enable him to give powers to others, but isn't that counterintuitive? Whatever his primary goal is, whether it be world domination or ulitmate power or both, then why grant more individuals powers. Wouldn't it make more sense for Arthur to desire to be the only individual with powers (hence what "old" Sylar was like), Or he could be the leader of a small group of villians and conquer the world that way. Doesn't giving more individuals power just make his goals more difficult (more potential good guys to contend with).

Idk I think all the villlains and even some of the heroes have their own motives for everything.
-Mohinder wants the cure always for a selfish reason (for science, save his lover maya, or himself as of late) but Arthur wants to dish it out to everyone cause if everyone's special then no one is.
Tracy don't care about the formula at all but she's on the bad side...idk
-Nathan wants to take out Arthur cause he's trying to kill him (reasonable i guess lol) but Noah wants to take him out cause he wants to protect HIS family.
Claire only wants to do it cause everybody else is.

i hate the way arthur has become the head of the 'villains'. there was no build up, we are just expected to blindly accept him as the bad guy. sylar has done more evil things than anyone; he killed and terrorized countless people ... including elle's father. yet she not only forgives him, she falls in love with him? yeah yeah ... she feels she helped sylar become a monster, so her guilt about that denies her the ability to blame sylar .... but isn't elle supposed to be a sociopath or something?! i thought those people were defective because they refuse to take ownership of their own actions to some extent .... so you would think she would overlook any part she had to play in her father getting killed. after all, even though bob wasn't father of the year, she grew up constantly seeking his approval, how did she suddenly turn that off?!

when i think of arthur, i think of the hitler miniseries that came on cbs a few years ago. in the opening scene of part 2 the hitler character kicks a dog, just in case we forgot he was evil lol .... makes me wonder, how are we supposed to get behind arthur as the villain when sylar is the baddest mofo on the show?!

Idk i don't think Sylar is REALLY as big a deal as we make him. Like now that the story unfolds better we can see how Sylar's just some maniac rouge agent and Arthur really is the bad guy. His plans just haven't gone down yet but when they do I think we'll see just how bad he is.

i agree with zombieslayer... its hard to accept arthur as the big villain cuz so far arthur has done NOTHING.... if you think about the patterns in movies now-a-days i beleive the REAL kinds of villains are maniac rogues... sylar is a sick villain cuz he acctually puts everyone in danger... villains are borring when theyre old and wear suits and get all their thugs to do the dirty work.....

But dont get me wrong, i think arthur still has the chance to step it up... if he ever decides to actually use some of that power hes stored over all this time...... and if the stupid writers dont decide to kill him off too fast...

Zombieslayer and DanRam both make really excellent points. Arthur is just an old man with a plan....who else to we know that was old, made plans and had an almost unstoppable power...

Marvels' Magneto. Old bastard had more schemes under that helmet than anyone AND he wasnt afraid to get out there and whoop some butt. But he did send the Brotherhood out most of the time to do his dirty work.

Maybe we are just seeing a little bit of what Arthur is truely capable of and when the time is right we will see some epic shizz

Honestly I think Arthur's a good villain. Just like NoMorePowers said, he hasn't shown his full potential yet and he's just the leader whos making eveyrbody else do dirty work.

let me make my case here. off the top of my head, sylar has:

killed 11 people (that i know of) for their abilities. brian davis -telekinesis, zane taylor - melt stuff, james walker - freezing, charlie - super brain, butch lady - super hearing, isaac mendez -precog, ted sprague - radiation, bob bishop - goldfinger lol , dumb agent - see origins of stuff, jessie - sound manipulation, emo guy trevor - finger gun
plus he killed mohinder's father, claire's friend, alejandro, and candice for nothing.

besides all the general terrorizing he did in season one (remember the missing brains?!) he did set peter up to explode and take a chunk out of NYC, and he would have had it not been for nathan.
in an alternate future we saw him pose as president nathan, and he used his position to hunt the superfriends.

meanwhile, arthur:
tried to kill his son .... claire's mom shot her, big whoop.
erased angela's mind .... HRG has done that to his wife so many times her eyes can't blink in unison anymore
killed maury parkman ... ok, that was pretty cool

Arthur is an authoritve figure though. Sylar doesn't really have a plan and in season 1 just killed any person with powers he found. He didn't really have a big plan. Arthur can do those things, but he makes others do his dirty work and I'm sure he has a more evil and bigger plan than Sylar would think of.
