how did sylar prevent peter from getting the ability? peter absorbs them by simple proximity, so why not sylar's?

peter has also shown to be able to use a power once he's seen it used. at the very least, i think it makes it easier. peter may or may not have already had sylar's power, he just needed to apply it before he could use it. this just adds to the fact that peter turning into the new sylar, head slicing and all, makes no sense.

It does actually make sence

Gabriel's ability is a very difficult one to understand, peter would of needed to perform it to understand how it works. Like all abilities, when he first got the flying one he didn't have a clue how to use it at first until he used it a few times.

that makes sense to me. so, in that sense sylar wasn't preventing him from "getting" the ability.... he was not teaching him how to "use" it

It was shown in a previous episode when he was inside the body of the sound power guy that Peter doesn't always know how to instinctivly use his powers. I think Sylar showing him the Watch was a way of getting him in touch with the power (he already had) like when Peter was being taught by the invisible man.

peter cutting open nathan's head was freaky.. sylar knew what he was talking about when he told peter that his power would "condemn him to hell."
