It's because Claire's ability is controlled by her brain. You separate it from her or damage in a way where it can't normally function, she can't regenerate: stick in head in Season One; glass shard in Peter's head in Season One; Future Claire in Season One when Sylar saws through it; Sylar in the opening of this Season too, actually. Claire doesn't begin to regenerate until after Sylar walks back and puts her skull back. As for Ted/Peter, they can explode all they want. They are the center of it, it's pushing outward. Notice Ted and Peter are fine, it's just their clothes that aren't nuclear-proof. That's why Nathan was so badly hurt. Sylar's not wrong per se. The only way to 'kill' them is to take away their ability. But Sylar has always made a distinction about people with abilities and people who don't have them. If he can't kill Claire unless her ability is gone, that's it for him. Plus, this isn't some last minute problem the writers just encountered this season. They'd known since at least Season Two Claire was immortal (Adam). If they thought it was an issue and Sylar needed this ability, they could have given him someone else to take it from. Claire's storyline could easily be created by any character attacking her.

| Sorry I should have said powers that kill them not hurt them would suck. but your right powers hurt those that are inexperienced Elle, Tedd, Claire (not no more),Matt,Dale's hearing. But once they have become disciplined Matt can filter all the thoughts around him, Dale can focus her super hearing. using powers don't hurt Future Peter or Sylar. |

| Mohinder found out that powers are triggered by adrenal glands...adrenal glands are around the kidneys not in the brain...decapitating her shouldnt stop her body from just poppin out a new head... |

Look at many many chemical reactions not to do with living beings. (before life in the universe for example) Chemical reactions happen in the body too without the brain doing anything.

| this is something they are never going to explain well. Adam said to Peter the company would have killed him if they could (killed adam). But then he said to Peter if he got shot in the head thats something you can't come back from. So why didnt the company cut his head off or whatever. Maybe he was just saying that to gain peters favor and give an excuse for killing the lady. Sylar also said she can't die, and of course Peter did blow up, but that shouldn't really hold weight because Claire's mom is immune to her power, fire... and I'm guessing the nuclear guy wouldn't have died either, i think he's immune to the radiation and stuff. So the only real way to explain it is that the cells/particles/whatever come back together from thin air. But the problem with that is how can a stake stock Claire if that's possible. One question I have is what happens if they don't eat? I know you can't get realistic with this stuff, but seriously, can Adam live in a grave? |

| To get really specific, your adrenal glands will no no longer function properly if your brain isn't. (they're dependent on the hormones from your pituitary gland, which relies on your brain). |
