Heroes continues to prove itself as a challenging story teller with the episode “String Theory.”  Tonight they went all out in taking risks with the narrative by jumping five years into the future to show us what will happen if our Heroes failed.  As the folks over at LOST have learned, when you start playing with time things can get a bit dicey.  Was Heroes able to take fans on a time trip that did not shatter the continuity of the plot?  I’d say yes.

Also, it was a great episode. Sylar is one of the best villans on tv and Peter is awesome.

"Was Heroes able to take fans on a time trip that did not shatter the continuity of the plot? I'd say yes." I've got to say Jon, if you apply a LOST-level critique of the episode it does show some time problems.

First is the time-line aspect...which will always fail under close examination no matter what show. Still, Heroes seemed to want it both ways. The Future Hiro remembered the past the way it ran prior to them "saving the cheerleader" (Sylar regenerating), yet in that same future the cheerleader had already been saved.

Second is what I consider to be Heroes biggest problem moving ahead: namely, as the people amass these great powers it becomes more and more difficult to put them in dramatic or dangerous positions without making it seem contrived.

Take when Future Hiro, Hiro, and Ando were ambushed by Homeland Sec. Why did Future Hiro try to run away? Why didn't he just do what Peter does later in the episode...stop time? Obviously so that we could have a dramatic

...and the rest of my comment above was cut off, so I pick up...

Obviously so that we could have a dramatic story.

Thought the episode was great, but Heroes can't stand up to a LOST-level analysis.

The future Sylar also had DL's power ... notice at the end when he phased his arms through the wall to pull Peter out? Peter even says his brother can't phase through walls.

I thought it was a great episodes but I have a problem with the Future Hiro getting Hiro to kill Sylar. He needs to be stopped but he is not the one who explodes it is still Peter. Also Rick if I am not mistaken the reason that Future Hiro ran was because the Hatian was with Matt (remember he can block anyones powers). When they (Future Hiro, Ando and Peter) were going to save the other Hiro remember that they said that they would have to take the Hatian out first.

oops. i see that jackie mentioned that already. in response to jackie...so would it make more sense if hiro kills peter if peter is the exploding man?? then who stops sylar? in the preview for next week's episode they reveal a 'new hero' as the only one who can stop sylar....interesting..

You are right, the Hatian was there during the ambush. But here's another one. Why doesn't Parkman know that Sylar is posing as Nathan...you know since he can read minds (unless you assume he has never been in thought range of the President).
