
Golden Globe-nominated actor
Masi Oka, best known for his inclusion on
Heroes, did not escalate instantly to fame and stardom. In fact, he struggled like other actors who encountered much difficulty in landing a spot in the saturated world of showbiz. In addition, his distinct Asian features also added to his slim chance of acquiring diverse character roles.
According to CNN, the Japanese-American actor had to face the reality that the industry was quite biased in terms of casting non-American actors. He said, “I realized there weren't characters being created for my type because Hollywood tends to have a narrow vision with regards to Asian Americans, or Asians in general… I figured if no one is going to create stuff for me, I need to create stuff, at least for other Asian actors."
