Why did NBC Spoil Heroes' Biggest Twist?

The question is, after all the anticipation that was created with the cliffhanger ending that pitted Peter against Sylar, why did NBC spoil the outcome by revealing during last night's Heroes marathon that Peter dies at the hands of Sylar?
