Grey's Anatomy: Patrick Dempsey Opens Cancer Center

Patrick Dempsey may just play a doctor on television but he knows what it’s like to sit inside the walls of a hospital day in and day out. His mother, Amanda, is a survivor of ovarian cancer. She was treated three separate times for the disease at the Central Maine Medical Center and is now cancer free. In honor of his mother, the Grey's Anatomy star is opening the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing. He recently addressed the media and medical staff at a press conference about the new center and what it will do for the community.

I think that's great that Patrick Dempsey is putting his wealth to good use! That center will be able to help a lot of people. What a great guy!

I lost a very good friend to cancer and building a support system is SO important. I'm glad that Patrick is not only bringing attention to different ways to help cancer patients medically, but also ways to help their families and loved ones. Nothing makes me happier than a celebrity who gets that there's more to life than awards shows and magazine covers. He did a truly great thing!

OMG! I think that is so nice of him! I am so happy that celebrities are supportive of sicknesses. My grandfather and my aunt died from cancer so I think a cancer center is very important.
