Brooke Smith as Dr. Erica HahnDuring the third season of ABC's Grey's Anatomy, Dr. Burke, played by Isaiah Washington, suffered a gun shot wound that left him bedridden and out of commission.  In came Brooke Smith's Dr. Erica Hahn, a cardiothoracic surgeon at a neighboring hospital who substituted for Burke at Seattle Grace.  While Smith loved the role, she wasn't expecting it to become a permanent gig.

“I didn't really think it was going to work out,” Smith told The Daily News.

I haven't decided if I like Dr. Hahn yet and for the life of me, can't figure out why McSteamy was hitting on her. What a terrible match!

I like Hahn. I know a lot of people dont, but shes the strongest female character to come onto the show. Bailey started off that way, but has softened so much, its disgusting. And Cristina has just turned into someone who's main goal is to be rude and snide. Hahn is someone who knows her place and will stand strong there. An admirable character.

I agree with SomethingToBe. This show always claims that it's about strong women, but none of the women are actually all that strong and grounded in their beliefs anymore. I'm really hoping that Hahn will stick to her guns and continue to be a no-nonsense straight shooter, and not turn all wishy-washy and unconfident like all the other women are.

Hahn seems like the same character on Grey's that she was on Crossing Jordan. It's like her character just moved from Boston (CJ) to Seattle (GA).
