grey's anatomyAfter Isaiah Washington broke his silence over his controversial exit on Grey’s Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes, creator and one of the executive producers of the series, has finally said her piece to Access Hollywood on Thursday, June 14, 2007.

“I feel like we wrote the show in a way that really completes the story of [Washington's character] Burke, and that is a really strong thing,” she has revealed.

The third season of Grey's was depressing...the humor that drew me to the show was gone. Yes, characters grow, but do they have to be quite so unhappy while they do it? But at least they all got the shaft from the writers, which made me feel a little better. It was kind of like when "Homicide, Life on the Street" went from being an entertaining cops and robbers show to being a showcase for the meanest, saddest, rudest bunch characters in a show. Talk about jumping a shark. If I do tune in for Season 4 I hopefully will be entertained...left with a smile now and them, and not just feeling like I should have watched an I Love Lucy retun.

"I think we explored different things for women this year."

I think the show took women to new LOWS this year - the biggest message being that women can't have both a career and a personal life.

Plus, other personal [non] favourites:

Callie's 'insecure' lead-in to George & Izzie's sexfest. Low PLUS totally out of character for Callie - contrived! to get G/I together.

Christina 'dumbing down' for Burke in front of old boyfriend. LOW plus totally out of character for Christina.

Meredith's suicidal moment when she doesn't swim. A woman who has gone through so much schooling to become a surgeon and get past personal issues to care for ailing mother is probably stronger and a little more driven that that.

Addison giving Mark-the-manwhore another chance after he'd already cheated on her - apparently a woman can't be single and happy, even for a few months. Not to mention jumping the intern - Alex finally going after Addison would have been believable, pre-spinoff he was

[rest of comment - was cut off]

falling for her, but out of character for Addison to make the first move - contrived! for spin-off.

Rebecca's 'give me a reason to stay' or I go back to my husband. Strong women leave bad relationships to be out of the relationship, not only if there is a new guy on the horizon.

I don't even want to discuss the train-wreck that is Izzie's character. There is no way someone that emotionally uncontrolled could become a doctor.

Shonda is losing it. And her 'company line' about IW is not very believable. Real personal life behaviour aside, his character was one of the best, most believable on the show.

Shonda is delusional. Season 3 from the NDE experience forward was a train wreck. The NDE could have been developed into character growth and relationship repair - but instead went no where.

As for taking women places...extra marital affairs, co-dependent relationships, attempt to save a marriage with a baby and a woman passed over for having a husband she doesn't cheat on and a child. Yes, Shonda really took the women in the series some place. I just don't know where.

Maybe she should read the comments on her blog or look at the letter posted on cinemablend tv about the disappointment her viewers have with season 3.

Hopefully she will wake up and stop believing her own publicity. If season 3 was her best work, she needs to update the old resume because her viewers will eventually stop leaping off cliffs with her.

Though I must agree that the show has kinda hit a boring spot...not really as funny as it used to be...more seriousness than humour...but ya can't have it all. Don't forget, this is T.V. aka Entertainment, and you can't please everyone. I hope that this next season can bring some change, bring back some of those funny one liners that are so unique to the show. As well, blending the Grey's Anatomy with Addison at Oceanside Wellness Centre was brilliant and refreshing. I did not want that episode to end and look forward to what is in store for Addison and probably another good show.

Sincerely,

A "Seriously" addicted Grey's Fan

I am truely upset on how Washington was removed from the cast........Why was T.R. sooo offended about being called a FAG.......he is a FAG isnt he...hes made it public himself so how is it an insult? Washington just got screwed over by an over emotional FAG. I cant stand him at ALL!!!

Sweet? Who are you kidding, that Golden Globe win was for Season two, NOT for Season three. Are you going to admit this when none of the actors win an award for Season three? I doubt it. Why won't you just admit that the writers dropped the ball with Season three, that you were too eager to create Private Practice (which I hope fails miserably) and apologize for such an awful season? Shonda, do you read the comments left in Grey's Writer? If not, please read them now. I'm not the only dissapointed fan. I.W. should have controled his behavior, there was no excuse, even though I liked him as Burke. If he was going to be let go, it should have been last fall. The writers used him to finish out the storyline, not out of any great friendship to him. And the Mer/Der storyline, what a waste of talented actors. Even Izzie's character was unrecognizable at the end of the season. Yeah, you really burned the show to the ground. Most people write on the messageboard that they will watch the firs
